Yes I am after the Sweet thread the 70's brought back memories so I decided to search out footage of old bands I was into back then and still am!
I think alot here might find these genuinely great or not!

And you know why "Breadfan" is one of my favorite Metallica songs.
I should probably upgrade my Budgie stuff to CD.

Bandolier is their best....wanna fight?
Oh and found this cool rare Soundgarden cover of Budgie's classic Homicidal Suicidal, apparently released as a b-side on the Outshined Single.....

Budgie excellent band, like alot of folks in the US I discovered them thru Metallica's cover version of " Breadfan".
Their first album released in 1971 was just as heavy as Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep, also they had best song titles this side of Blue Oyster Cult, "Nude Disintergrating Paracutist Woman" and of course the classic "Napoleon Bona Part One Napoleon Bona Part Two".
My favorite Budgie is the self titled debut.

No. "I Can't See My Feelings" off Bandolier is along with "Zoom Club", maybe my favorite Budgie song. I don't have any rankings for Budgie though, I like all of thier albums. Every single one of them.

I love "I Can't See My Feelings" which was incidentally covered by Iron Maiden....my favourite song off Bandolier is Napoleon Bona Part 1&2.
Did you check out that Soundgarden cover of Homicidal Suicidal, Cornell sounds exactly like Dave Tice which is no coincidence!

Yes, he does sound like Buffalo Dave now that you mention it. Man, someday I hope to get over the bitterness about being under-exposed to Budgie and several other bands while growing up here in this great cultural wasteland I live in. It just makes me sick to think of the crap I wasted time listening to instead.

I discovered this band in the early 80s when a friend of mine's brother turned me on to them. He also let me borrow Rainbow's Long Live Rock and Roll. Two great bands in the same day, I have liked 'em ever since.

I think Soundgarden are one of the few bands to actually claim Buffalo as an influence particuarly Cornell who is an avowed admirer of Tice.
I feel sorry for you Sahb for not listening to Budgie for a long time, i've been listening to them since i was 16 or 17.....but it's too easy in this day and age of internet, everyone's a little more hipper nowadays.

The thing that bugs me most is that I did my research back then, and the NME encycolpedia that I had actually had an entry for Budgie that said "pedestrian rock band from Wales" or some such thing. That review and the parakeet logo caused me to pass for 10 years. There were no downloads or anything to fall back on in those days...it was just read review and buy or pass.
p.s-the same damn encyclopedia tried to talk me out of Stooges, Hawkwind, and Sabbath, ridiculing them all as bands that only knew three chords. Luckily I knew that I liked three chord bands. You see where my disdain for critics comes from, eh?

Thing is nowadays those bands are lauded and praised....those bands were so far ahead (and behind) that it seems no one got them at the time except for those young kids with guitars in the garages....and Lester Bangs!
Hindsight is a funny thing.....it has 20/20 vision. Something alot of critics take on board with revisionist history.

I still think Bandolier is like nothing i've heard before, totally unique even compared to the rest of the eccentric Budgie catalogue.

Yeah, Bandolier is great! The hardest one to get into for me was Deliver Us From Evil but it's still a good one.

Budgie is a fantastic group, one of the most unique UK bands of the 70s. Their first 7 albums are essential for any hard rock collection.
It's shame their discography has never been reliably available in the States.

I know as a Budgie fan you're not supposed to say this - but I love Deliver Us From Evil. I mean really love it. Sure there is some nostalgia to go with it, but if I had to only have one Budgie album it would be that one.
