I assume it's "our" Ultimatum it refers to? Do you guys still produce this zine? I assume not, this back issue of Metal Rules! was probably seven or eight years old at least, and it was the first I'd heard of it.
Just curious.
Yes, we produced a metal fanzine/newsletter for years and years. Our mailing list was gigantic by the end of 1999. We were printing up 10,000 copies, hand sorting them for the post office with a bulk mailing label. It took me days just to sort the mail and put all the mailing labels on, etc. That didn't include the hours of layout time and such. It was a great promo tool for Ultimatum and many other bands we featured.
We had a debate with Usurper that was really popular. After it came out the Usurper guys claimed we never told them it was to be a debate. I offered to let them write a rebuttal, but they never did and instead just trashed us to the various magazines that brought up the subject.
I also debated a Satanist that was in prison, I believe for murder. I might be wrong about why he was imprisoned. It's been some time since I've read that article. He was a very intelligent guy, and actually quite polite, but very mixed up as well. An interesting read.
I might still have some back issues in my garage if you are interested.
We stopped producing the zine after the release of Mechanics of Perilous Times. It was just becoming too expensive and the internet was taking over anyhow.
