| I figured this board is a great place to start looking for input. Besides my love of rock n roll and metal, I also enjoy prog rock. In fact it is probably one of my favorite styles. However I dont know many bands out there that qualify.
For one thing I am a huge fan of Porcupine Tree, I think they are just amazing at prog. I also enjoy Mars Votla, but not as big on them as PT. I have been force feeding myself on Coheed and Cambrias latest album, but didnt like the first 2 and never heard the 3rd album yet. However I am finding I am rather enjoying the newest one. So the point is, I have read that King Crimson is an amazing prog rock band. So I am looking for your input since I really respect all your input you guys give each other, and the fact that this board doesnt plague each other with taunts.
Besides the first KC album which is amazing, are the rest as good? Any others to check out?
Thanks!

| I was going to suggest the first one as that's all I'm really familiar with. I've heard the others are good though. _________________ | |

| Never got into these guys. In my college days one of my stoner buddies insisted we always listen to King Crimson when we were getting, shall we say, "altered," and they always annoyed the hell out of me!! It was kinda hard to enjoy my buzz with that racket goin' on in the background!!! _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Yep, big KC fan here. If you like In the Court of the Crimson King, you'll probably enjoy its successor In the Wake of Poseidon. I've always felt it is an apt companion to the first one. That's just the early stages of this band though. From the next evolutionary step, I would recommend the albums Larks' Tongues in Aspic and Starless and Bible Black, as both are very solid albums from that period. Also, as caniplaywithmadness already stated above, Red is another good one from this era. Then comes the legendary era of the Fripp/Belew/Levin/Bruford lineup which endured for many years. From that era, the Discipline album is essential - probably as essential as the band's debut, IMO. I would also recommend the Beat album that came right after that. And as for newer material, I would recommend the THRAK and ConstruKction of Light albums. Beyond those, I haven't kept up with them. The ones I suggested should keep you busy for awhile though, and if you like them, there are plenty more to check out!

| The Wetton era was amazing IMHO! Check out the live cd USA also. There is a live cd of the original bands last show at the Fillmore West that you should track down. The track Mars is insane. | |

| I like 'em. Mainly ITCOTCK and Red. It'd be interesting to see what "21st Century Schizoid Man" sounds like live. |

| Love them or hate them, King Crimson is an INTENSE band...all their different eras are interesting. My favorite album is probably Islands (the song A Sailor's Tale is an all-time guitar classic).
For heaviness you should definitely check out Red...and their most recent album The Power To Believe shows they can still tear the roof off when the mood strikes them. |

| King Crimson, Robert Fripp amazing guitar player, In Court of Crimson King and Red is where I would suggest you start. Trogdawn gave you some excellent recommendations, btw here is a story I once heard from Jimi Hendrix rockumentry Backstage 1968 Robert Fripp is taken backstage at the request of Hendrix who was very impressed with the first set and in particular Fripp's guitar playing, as Fripp is taken backstage Hendrix extends his left hand and says: " Shake my left hand brother it is closer to my heart" Fripp says he never forget those word and how kind and graceous Hendrix was to him. | |

| I've been giving King Crimson a few spins lately, and I am really wishing that they would release some new material soon. Does anyone know if they have any future plans? | |

They did a brief tour about a year ago with Porcupine Tree's drummer added to the mix, they released some live material from that (available on the DGM website). I've heard they are back in the studio but they move notoriously slow because all the members have solo careers and/or play in other bands. However, it's always worth the wait. I believe they are returning to the double trio format for the new material. |
