| Was just wondering who some of your "favorite" shredders were in metal.
This could be a guitarist in a band or just solo acts.

I got one of those too, but mine goes up to 11. That makes it metal.

| Can someone define "Shredder" for me please, as I look over these lists some people seem way out of place for what I call a Shredder, Janick Gers, Adrian Smith etc..... I just don't see it, even Thin Lizzy on this list confuse me. Cacophony (Friedman/Becker) yes but the others ? Listen to Iron Maiden and then Listen to the Great Kat / Cacophony and see the difference. . |

Listen to Iron Maiden and then Listen to the Great Kat / Cacophony and see the difference. . well i put favorite in quotes so ppl would name some gifted guitar players that they love. All the players mentioned are great players but i agree most dont come off as shredders. Petrucci, Vai, Satriani, Gilbert, Malmsteen, MAB, Becker/Friedman all come off as shredders to me But there are a lot of shredders in bands that play wicked solos like Jeff Loomis of Nevermore Rusty Cooley of Outworld Carl Johan Grimmark of Narnia Chris Broderick of Jag Panzer Micheal Romeo of Symphony X and many many more

Glenn Rogers Larry Farkas Marty Freidman and lots more A few of my favorites right there. Man, I am so bummed that Larry couldn't work something out with Once Dead. I was so looking forward to hearing that material with both Larry and Glenn. Oh well. It wasn't meant to be. Some others:Ted Nugent (was shredding before shredding was considered cool!) Michael Angelo Batio (Nitro) Vinnie Vincent (Kiss, VVI) Phil Campbell (yes, Motorhead's guitarist is a shredder!) Robert Gutierrez (uh, huh! Take a listen to the guitar work on Into the Pit) Jeff Waters (Annihilator) Dave Linsk (Overkill, /speed\kill/hate\) Bobby Ingram (Molly Hatchet) Rickey Medlocke (Blackfoot, Skynyrd) Scott Gorham & Brian Robertson (Thin Lizzy) Mike Phillips (Deliverance) Jeff Loomis (Nevermore) Eddie Van Halen (in his day in the late 70's/early 80's, he was the best!) _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!
