Discouraging Cover Art

Opposite the thread about buying cd's because of their cover art... has anyone here held off from buying an album because of their unappealing/misguiding cover art, only to later revisit and actually give it a listen and be pleasently surprised?

There's been several over the years that I initially passed up. One off the top of my head was SACRED WARRIOR's Wicked Generation from 1990...I hadn't heard the band at the time, but I ran across the cassette. I didn't buy it because I kept wondering...Is that a chick or a dude on the cover??? I figured it was another dime-a-dozen poser glam band. Later when I finally heard it, I thought it was great.

I know there were some albums I passed up in the 80's due to lame covers but I can't recall any at the moment.

Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys


Back in 90 I started a job at a local store called The Big Wheel and they had Helloween in the music racks. I was in my "Christian Metal Only" phase so the "evil" looking cover art both drew me in and repelled me. I was so torn!

Burzum - Filosofem. i laughed at the cover. the album tuned out to be fantastic though. his last metal album as well.

there are loads i cant remember but i think good artwork is important

I don't know of any for sure, but I guarantee that all of the time I've invested scouring through used bins, I've passed up some quality music because of a bad cover, bad logo or bad band name.

It's an awesome album.

nltm says it lacks energy and enthusiams compared to earlier works

You should listen to it and create your own opinion.

Are we talking about Supernatural Birth Machine? That's the 1st Catherdral album I've purchased. It's one of my favorites by them. The song "Urko's Conquest" is about the movie Planet of the Apes. How can you go wrong with a song about that!?! Don't be fooled by the lame cover. It's a good cd.
