Okay time for another band pimpin'. It would be a safe bet that no one on this forum has heard this Australian band, although someone surprise me please. So this is a rant/sell/history of their music.
Anyway the Beasts Of Bourbon are imo the greatest australian rock n' roll band ever. Formed in 1983, they are a supergroup made up of members of the The Cruel Sea, Hoodoo Gurus, The Scientists, The Johnnys. The first 3 albums are great albums mixing country, blues, punk, rockabilly, garage through a tough Australian pub rock sound. But the album i really want to talk about and that would interest fans of hard rock is the immortal
The Low Road (1991). This album is a sleaze rock classic but not in the terms of classic hard rock that you would normally associate with that term. It's the most depraved, raw, dark, dangerous rock n' roll album i've ever come across. It's definately not for the faint hearted. You throw up any sleazy hard rock n' roll album that walks on the seedy side of life next to this and watch it wilt and die. This makes
Appetite For Destruction seem like it was down by a bunch of choirboys, hell even
Rocks looks shaky next to this. Musically its a raw blast of swampy bluespunk that in itself is a type of hard rock strangely, kinda picture AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Gun Club and the Birthday Party mixed up. The star of the show is definately lead singer Tex Perkins, he is without a doubt Australia's finest frontman a guy who oozes charsima and can easily go from sweet croon to rough deep throaty bark. Theirs two covers out of the 10 tracks on the album, the first being the Rolling Stones ode to homosexual frustration Cocksucker Blues and the second being a cover of AC/DC's Ride On. They released another album in 1997 and recently put out their first album in 10 years titled
Little Animals, this is a great album that is a great no frills 70's hard rock album.
Unfortunately their albums are hopelessly out of print except the new one, and command high prices on GEMM and Ebay (I saw the Low Road going for around $40-70). So you should download The Low Road from the link i'm providing, if you dont your missing out.
