OK, I'd just like compare these three numbers about CD prices, not sure if it fits in Heart of Metal but anyhow:

SLOVENIA:

Usual price for new CD: $25
Usual price for used CD: $15
Net salary for October 2007, acc. to Statistic department of Slovenia: 846,38 EUR, that is $1.219,04 (yes, we're a poor country Smile ).

So, this hypotheticaly means:
48 new CDs or 81 used per month. What's the situation in your country? I guess you Americans will have an average of 200+ CDs / month Smile

It all depends on where you buy Cd's in norway. you can get a new CD for anything between 149 to 199 Nkr. That is anything from $26,6 to $35,6 for a new CD. We have very few used CD stores, but the ones I use sell used CD's for 69 Nkr, or $12,6.

I have no idea for the netto salary average in Norway is, but I's say about 25000 Nkr = $4475.

That would make for 149 new CD's or 355 used ones.

Not far from what I usually buy....... lol!

USA- (California)

New CD- 9.99-19.99 depending on what it is and where you go.
Used CD- $2.50-10.00

Not sure about the average US salary but lets say 30,000/yr? so 2500/month

Using an avg. price of $15 for new cds, and $7.50 for used cds that is 166 new cds a month or 333 used cds a month.

Wow! I'm never moving to Slovenia or Norway.

New CDs: $9.99 (ocassionally less) to $18.99 (if you shop at places like FYE)
Used CDs: $1 (ocassionally less) to $14.99 (if you at places like FYE or Newbury Comics)

Generally here around Boston I pay no more than $5 for used CDs, and I rarely by new. You can find some good deals at the chain stores like FYE, but I have no idea where they come up with their used prices. I can go to Newbury Comics and pick up something used that's really cheap, and rare (like the recent Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes CD I found for $5.99, the original internet only version). But then I can go to that same store right now and buy Overkill's The Years Of Decay used for $11.99. Or I could buy the brand new sealed copy, sitting in the same slot, for $8.99. I mean, who the hell is doing this nonsense?

But those are the chain stores. The used shops in town are very good, though. My honey hole is Nuggets, a shop I've been going to since my high school days. They have a $2 section that is flat out killer. Tons of mainstream overstock in that section, but I've found countless rare gems over the years, even discovered some great unknown (to me) bands. I generally go there every time I head into town. Other smaller shops have great stuff from time to time, too, but often seem overpriced compared to Nuggets's $2 section. But hey, recently I found Andrew WKs Party Til You Puke EP on CD for $4.99, sealed, at Cheapos. Can't beat that price. And the same sort of thing has happened elsewhere.

That's Boston, though. I've been all over the US and this isn't the norm. When Nuggets closes its doors (and I think this is inevitably going to happen in the near future), I'm going to be a very sad, sad man. I may (probably definitely) even cry...a lot.

At some of the big supermarkets like CARREFOUR you can buy many classics for 5 or 6 euros, but normaly for a new cd i pay between the 13 and 17 euros and i am happy to pay that because i think those are good prices for cd´s. Dont care if others pay less. I could pay less too by buying from the net and thats something i do many times but i still like to go to a record shop, and then i dont care to pay more.

I live in Fresno, Ca and I rarely pay more than 12 dollars for a new cd at Rasputins. The only time I do pay more is when I know it's cheaper at Rasps. than online.
Older reissues typically go for 7-9 dollars, while new releases/reissues usually go for 12 dollars(they're sometimes cheaper, depends on the label). Limited/special editions usually go for 13-15+. you can always find the limited editions for a few bucks cheaper online, so i never pick those up there. I usually stock up on a few 8 dollar new cds and a couple of first press used cds, whenever I go.
