| Any fans here? I imagine some of you know this killer band. Anyway, I just got a friend request from them with my GRO page and then a message from the band. They released a new 6-track CD in 2006 called Raw! I couldn't believe it. Anyone have it?
The band says they broke up because their management and label stole everything from them, so they're looking to finance a new CD with sales from this one. It's pricey. $17.99 plus $3 S&H. Wikipedia says these songs were written for their third album, but were never recorded until now. And I guess some lyrics were changed with a more Christian view.
I'll have to grab this one, but that price is steeeeeeeep! http://www.myspace.com/sirlordbaltimorewebsite |

| As a collector of everything heavy from that era, I respect them as a period piece. But I never really thought they deserved their semi-legendary status. They always get mentioned with Bang. Bang was a much better band IMO. The new clips do sound a lot more energetic than their classic material, which tended to drone on. They always did have some Christian content to a few of their songs. I'll stay open minded to their new project, but I'm not sold yet. | |

| Yeah Sir Lord Baltimore are considered one of the holy grails of obscure american early 70's heavy metal, i like them but they are overrated when compared to the quality of the great underground US metal bands from around 1970-1972. Select albums from Bang, Bloodrock, Dust, Josefus & Poobah are the best examples of US underground metal from the early crusty rusty days of the genre. | |

| Poobah especially. Great fun and ahead of their time in 1972. I think Sir Lord Baltimore was about the last band to make it's reputation on pure volume. Their classic song "My Kingdom Come" pretty much sums them up. Massive, bombastic, Christian leanings, and good...but twice as long as it should have been and ultimately ponderous. That being said, the samples of the new EP sound much more stripped down and aggressive. I'd be curious to hear the whole thing, as the samples are short. There have been some really good comeback albums from some of these ancient legend bands. Stray, for instance. | |

| Stray's another good one, but only Suicide is decent. But talking about comebacks, how about the mighty Leaf Hound. They have a full comeback album, and its f*cking brilliant. Almost album of the year material. www.myspace.com/leafhound | |

| I actually find their albums to be pretty killer. Can't comment on much else, though, since I'm not an expert on that era. I'm still even getting into a lot of those bands. |

| Its a great era to dig into concerning the heavy metal period between 1970-1975. So many great underground bands that haven't been discovered. | |

| I read on the liner notes that Leafhound had been shocked that their album was now worth hundreds of pounds (or more), and that it had prompted a comeback. I'm glad to hear that they are following it through. Actually, I've read the same sentiment on the re-issues by a number of old bands that only recently discovered their legendary status, and are now trying to take advantage of it. I've actually tenatively started a new genre section in my music library entitled "grandpa rock"; which is pretty much about long retired bands that have made comebacks in the attempt to cash in. There are a whole bunch of them coming along soon I think. Could be pretty cool. | |

| There was a pretty good New York band called Odyssey from the same period whose vinyl has become a collectors item; and was last I heard gigging again for the first time in 30 years or more. | |
