| I'm looking for some opinions of Avenged Sevenfold's vocal style (not necessarily the music). Does anyone think a traditional metal band in the style of Savatage/Metal Church would sound good with a vocalist who sounded kind of like the AS singer? | |

| They're ok. I don't own anything by them but have heard their last album several times. Not really my thing, but not terrible either. I have a feeling they are one of those bands that will continue to change with the winds of trends. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| BNR Metal: - Quote :
- They released two metalcore albums on indie labels before being
signed to Warner Brothers for their third album, City Of Evil. By that time vocalist M. Shadows, apparently at the request of doctors, switched his singing voice away from hardcore screams and toward a melodic, nasally tone that several have likened to Axl Rose of all people. Musically, the band still retains some of their metalcore edge, with hook-laden songs blended with breakdowns and such, and the band is tight musicianship-wise. Much of the music, while heavy, is surprisingly upbeat, almost too melodic, though not in the same way that some German power metal bands that end up sounding, for want of a better word, happy. City Of Evil has gotten some great reviews and the band certainly is trendy, though curiously the underground metal press don't seem to have much time for them. Flash-in-the-pan media darlings, or a young band on the road to superstardom? Too soon to tell. I'd be willing to bet the former; flash-in-the-pan media darlings. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| Yeah, I'm with the majority here. Don't like this band. They're not 'horrible', but they aren't my thing. |

| OK, but that's not really my question. I heard these guys for the first time a few days ago, and what I heard was a lot of clean vocals with a few growls thrown in (it was their latest album, I believe). What do you guys think of a vocalist with this style paired with a traditional metal band? | |

| i think that the vocal style is ok. doing both clean vox along with screams/growls... whatever. they aren't the first ones to do that though. _________________ | |

| Never heard them before but it seems to me they are one of the dime a dozen modern bands out there. | |

I personally don't think it would sound all that great. Just my .02. |

| Four albums, four styles. Pffft. And no, I think the vocalists new nasaly whine is really off-putting. I think in any metal band his vocals overpower (in a bad way) anything good about the songs. |

| i only have the city of evil album and they appear quite the scenesters with the way they dress which is a shame as they are obviously talented musicians despite the fact that i dont care for the music that much as it tends to borrow from other bands | |

Yup, look at the the style of music and clothing, they just seem to follow trends. Change is not a bad thing, but it seem odd to tranform from looking like a dorky hardcore kid constatly screaming with no tattoos to all of a sudden everyone tattooed looking like they have lived this Hollywood rockstar life for ages. Completely manufactured pop music. | |
