| What are peoples favortie Dream Theater album? For me it is a tie between Awake and Images And Words, but since almost everyone will probably pick Images And Words, I will go with Awake. In order this is how I rank them:
Images and Words-My first DT intro was Pull Me Under but I didn't get this CD till after I got Awake. Favorite songs are Pull Me Under, Take The Time, Live Another Day, and Under A Glass Moon. Awake-This album rekindled my interest in DT after I saw the music video for Lie, that and getting the VHS of them in Tokyo (where I first heard more songs from I&W). Favorite songs are Innocence Faded, Scarred, Voices, The Mirror, and Lie. Scenes From A Memory-IMO, the last GREAT DT album (while I like the other ones, I believe DT can do better). Favortie songs are Fatal Tragedy, Through Her Eyes, Home, Spirit Carries On, and Finally Free (the ending still puts a smile on my face, as I picture the main character on the recliner being startled when you hear the psychiatrist's voice). Falling Into Infinity Train Of Thought When Dream And Day Unite Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence Octavarium Systematic Chaos (still growing on me)
Yes I realize I mixed up Dream and Day.

| I can go with any of the first three. When they had Derek Sherinian in the band, Dream Theater seemed to know how to balance progressive songwriting, technical musicianship and quality songwriting. In my opinion, after Sherinian left, the technical musicianship seemed to take over and the songwriting took a back seat.
I chose Images and Words. Still ranks as my favorite DT CD. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| I went with Images and Words (after about 10 minutes of staring at the screen and trying to decide) because I played this album non stop when it first came out and it was also the first cd I ever purchased when I got a cd player in 1994. I think that now though, I play Train of Thought and Metropolis more than their older catalogue. | |

I chose Images and Words. Still ranks as my favorite DT CD. Remember though that Kevin Moore was in there for the first three, Derek was on Change Of Seasons and Falling Into Infinity. Kevin is my favorite keyboardist because of IAW and Awake.

| Images and Words. A good balance of song and technical finesse. I like 'em progressive but I need songs. | |

| Train Of Thought. i never expected Dream Theater to sound that heavy. i had always liked them before, but this one impressed the hell out of me. _________________ | |

| Train Of Thought for me as well. I was shocked at the heaviness of it, too, but I found the songwriting to be more streamlined, so they were catchier. I still love their really progressive stuff, but this one just does it for me the most. |

| Tough call for me - I&W, Awake and Scenes From A Memory are all too close to call, but I voted for Scenes since I listed to that most upon first buy, and that one was a late buy because I didn't like falling into infinity. The new one is OK, but not as good as TOT or O | |

| None of them. I just can not get into this band. I've tried and tried and tried to listen to them hoping something would click. I always end up feeling cold and indifferent to them, though. Guess I'm too "low brow" to "get it". _________________ You're cancer, you can't be the answer, you're killing me

| I think Systematic Chaos is killer. Very much like Train of Thought, with a stronger lean toward the progressive. |

| i voted for images and words as it was the first dream theater album i got and in my opinion it is their most focused release to date. pull me under also makes my favourite song list so that also gets my vote. awake and the debut are good albums but have not heard much newer stuff apart from the new album | |
