I remember that he was living under the radar for years (after his heyday on TV). He was one of the “where are they now” celebrities.
He seemed like a nice guy… at least he tried to be cheerful and helpful to other people.

I really don't have one, but I do find it hilarious when he's still alive in his 80s considering the lifestyle he's lived, while much healthier people don't live nearly as long.

Richard Simmons was one of those vaguely creepy, annoying celebrities that I never had much use for. I'm sure he did lots of good for a lot of people, but for me personally, whenever he turned up on one of the late night talk shows or whatever, I'd be like "Oh Jeez, not this guy again" and I'd change the channel.
Years ago when my then-fiancee (now my wife) and I first moved in together, we went on a weight loss kick together, and she tried to get me to work out with her to one of Richard's "Sweatin' to the Oldies" exercise videos. I think I lasted about fifteen minutes before I bailed out. I said, "I can't do this, I feel like an idiot, this is fuckin' stupid."

Richard Simmons never really looked all that “fit”. He looked like a person struggling to keep his weight off.
He seemed to be a nice gentle soul, but he basically was just a flamboyant guy that made a living appealing to bored chubby housewives.

What did it, was I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror on the wall and I looked SOOOOOO stupid trying to copy Richard's fey little twinkie dance moves. I was like "Fuck this, I'm out!"
