Subject: What (audio book) are you currently listening to? Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:11 am
I’ve been using Audible a lot recently.
Should I start a new thread for audio books? Or do we just combine them in the regular book thread.

Well the other thread is titled "what book are you currently reading", and audio books aren't really reading, so I'd say you should keep them separate.

Just finished Dio’s Rainbow in the Dark audiobook. It’s good to hear his thoughts on his early years, but the book ends too soon! It basically just goes up to his Sacred Heart solo album. Many more albums came after and there was no mention of Sabbath’s Dehumanizer album. Kinda disappointed about that. The book simply wasn’t finished… If he survived, he would have covered a lot more years.

I agree, it ends too soon, but I think there will be a second book. Thought I read somewhere that there was more to it, but not sure why they ended it there.
I just got done listening to The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. Now I'm listening to Hyperion, by Dan Simmons. Great four book series I highly recommend.

It kinda makes sense for his widow/manager to have another book… “part 2”. That’s more $$! She’s like Sharon Osbourne’s greedy sister.

I tried to do the audio book trip, didn't click for me.
Likened it to ordering dinner for me and somebody else getting to eat it.

You don’t like the idea of the actual author reading the book?

Nope
Just cause ya know how to write, doesn't mean ya know how to read out loud. Â
The chances of anybody reading it to me the same way I read it in my head is pretty slim. It matters.

It's not a voice People emphasize certain words for impact when speaking.(An author can get over excited reading his own text) It can distract from normal comprehension compared to reading the same text yourself, comparable to how proper/improper punctuation & grammar changes context.

Thanks for the detailed response. To each their own I guess…

So curious what speed do you audio listeners listen to the books? If it's fiction I usually just listen at normal 1.0 speed, but for nonfiction I bump it up to 1.5 speed. Anyone else listen at higher speed? Tried higher, but sometimes the words seem cut off at times.

Listen to stories 1.0.
Listen to most podcasts at 1.5 or 1.75. Can't stand how slowly some people speak.

That's a good point too, sometimes I'll speed up a fictional book because the reader talks so damn slow.

I have no idea. I just press play. Whatever speed Audible uses.
