I think La Bamba by Ritchie Valens was probably only played in California and the neighboring southwestern states. I have a hard time imagining someone like “John Smith” from anywhere in the Midwest requesting it. Razz

Kim Mitchell's songs were likely only hits in Canada and surrounding areas. Ans on that note, did Saga have any hits in the US besides On The Loose, or were their hits only played on Canadian radio?

I have no idea… but I have heard that most Canadian artists are only popular in Canada.

Kim Mitchell's "Go For Soda" got quite a bit of play on the Philly FM rock station back in the day.  As did Honeymoon Suite.

Speaking of Philly, when I lived there we had this little "regional" band called The Hooters who had this reggae-style song called "All You Zombies".  Then BOOM, no longer regional.  Same thing happened when I lived near Nashville, TN.  I saw this obscure band with the weird name of The Georgia Satellites at a little bar in Murfreesboro, TN with about 50 other people.  Their cover of "The Race Is On" had been getting airplay on Vanderbilt's college radio station as well as this catchy little original song of theirs called "Keep Your Hands To Yourself".  A month later - KAPOW! - national hit.

I know Honeymoon Suite. I like their song “New Girl Now”.

I think that's the only song I know from them. Good tune!

Here's one from Philly in the 80s. You can tell it's the 80s by the hair styles but musically I think this could be from any year. Philadelphia had a TON of artists who unfortunately never did much outside of the area. Tommy Conwell was one of those:

That song got airplay here in the Pittsburgh area. I always liked that song.

In the early 90's this band Zwarte was pretty big around the ND, SD and MN area. This was their big song.
