Best Betty of Yesteryear

"Betty" is/was surfer lingo for "girl". "Barney" for "boy", by the way, or "chick" & "dude" , depending on personal vernacular.

We have "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart from 1971 -vs- "Brandy" by Looking Glass from 1972. Which song is better than the other and why?

Maggie May is more interesting musically (IMHDO), but Brandy is way catchier, also (IMHDO)

I vote for Looking Glass. which later "evolved" into Starz.

I like both songs a lot but I voted Maggie May mainly because I really like the lyrics.  Like:

"The morning sun when it's in your face really shows your age
But that don't worry me none in my eyes your everything."

"You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my soul, and that's a pain I can do without"

I guess I can relate because when I was in my early 20s I came very, very close to being in that same boat but fortunately I bailed.

I think my father liked those. I know for sure he liked Angie by The Rolling Stones.

Maggie for me. Just too real lyrics. College vibe. True love.

Brandy was way tougher of a song. Perfect Storm song.

I never would have thought of these two songs together.  I've always liked "Maggie May" but the poll made me realize how much I like "Brandy" too. This was much more difficult than I would have imagined.
