Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom dies at 41

I am in shock.

I saw this on my newsfeed, I was shocked also. I am not a major fan but 41 is way too young

Dear God! 2021 is starting in the most awful ways.

I am an occasional fan of Children of Bodom, and own many of their albums.

Sad news. R.I.P .

I've heard rumors of liver disease, and HIV. Whatever the cause, 41 is too young to go out. I loved Sinergy & his album with Impaled Nazarene. The first 3 albums of Bodom were pretty good too.

The name for his new band "Bodom After Midnight" becomes fitting and tragic at the same time. Midnight taking on the meaning of Alexi's death.

They recorded new songs, and there is a video shot that's coming out soon. The plan is to go ahead and release all. His final statement in music.

I will definitely buy the Bodom After Midnight album.

What a shock! I quite like Children of Bodom. They aren't my favorite but when I'm in the mood for (modern) melodic death metal, they hit the spot. First Brodie Lee (a pro wrestler for those who don't know) last month and now Alexi both at 41 (same age as me). Very tragic.

I know the name but I'm not familiar with the man's output because it's not my style of music. But as everyone has said, 41 is WAY too young for anyone to pass on. My sympathies to his family and his fans. RIP.

I’m not too familiar with Bodom because I never gave them a proper listen. I know I didn’t like the upfront keyboards... but I did recognize Alexi as a talented guitarist from the few videos I’ve seen online. The other band I knew from Finland was Sentenced.

The advantage of having a large t-shirt collection like mine (I've got to have over 200 by now-about 85% are band shirts), is very few of mine are that beat up. A few with some holes here and there but nothing I can't really wear). When I was younger and had less shirts it was different. I had two Metallica shirts, a Skid Row shirt and one Slayer shirt that I wore so much in middle school, they practically disintegrated .

I always wondered what would COB actually sound like, with a "normal" singing style.

Most know him from Bodom, but Sinergy were power metal, and great.

I like the more straightforward metal of Sinergy better than Bodom. But the singer doesn’t have a standout voice IMO. She sounds like almost all the other female fronted bands from the early 2k’s. Alexi should have worked with Sebastian Bach.

I think he just wanted a project with his girlfriend, who eventually became his wife for a time.

I was shocked when I first heard this news. Sad news to start off the new year.
