Thought about - best of 1980 - 1984 ....

^^What Unc said. One of my favorite solo debuts by a guitarist. Victim of Illusion will burn your house down and run off with your wife.

I'm also a big fan of the '91 s/t, it's a different, smoother ride but really enjoyable.

EDIT: Thinking about it, the '91 s/t (M.S.G.) should be recognized as a different project (Mcauley Culkin-Schenker-Group or whatever that dude's name was).

Well, The 1st cd is what got it rolling. But I will always be a bigger fan of "Assault  Attack" Great band and Graham Bonnet killed it on vocals..

You should buy both.   MSG - "One Night at Budokan" is excellent if you like live cd's, I do..

Just  my 2 cents

The first two are my favourites. Best start with the debut, and if you still want more, go chronologically.

Debut was 1980, and it's Robin McAuley.

If you want top three, the first two are definitely among them. Third spot is up for grabs. Two might just be enough, as I don't think MSG ever reached that level again.

If you like Graham Bonnet, then the third album chronologically, Assault Attack, will be a decent addition. But nothing compares to the first two. Self-titled and 'MSG'. Anyone else confused by the fact there are essentially two self-titled albums, one just uses the acronym and one the whole name?

Throw in the '91 MSG, even though the 'M' is different, and yeah, confusing as hell. Always throws me for a loop.

Totally agree with what Lari said and add Temple of Rock, a more recent live album that slays.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. They essentially have three unnamed/self-titled albums.

UFO- Phenomenon and progress from there go through the MSG stuff. After that get Lonesome Crow by Scorpions and see where he started from. The progression is awesome.

The ask was about a "Michael Schenket" lads...

Smile

Darn typos. Some fine releases within the MSG discography all the way to present I suspect it depends on your musical preference as Michael has always "rocked" and there is no real wrong choice, but there are definitely some softer sides and the McCauley stuff is pure 80's hair rock, excellent but certainly very radio friendly. Heck I have a disc from 2002 called Thank You 3 that is a disc worth of acoustical instrumental songs that showcase Mike's guitar wizardry.

When in doubt hit up Youtube for a couple hours and get a crash course.

I'm partial to Barden's vocals, though it's the one album with Bonnet I don't mind, as I normally don't care for his vocals. Regarding McAuley, the music took a severe hit in my estimation. Start at the beginning.

To me, One Night At Budokan for MSG and Strangers In The Night for UFO are the very clear, definitive Schenker must-haves. Those two capture the best of everything through the early 80s. Assault Attack is very much a love it or hate it release based on what you think of Bonnet's voice. There are highlights on everything after that, but nothing as consistently good as the two main early live albums.

This one for sure!! Especially at that price. You'd be a fool to pass up an opportunity like this one!!
