Some of you know Auntie Saxon passed tragically last year. This was one of her all time fav bands/songs.

This is a very original and interesting idea for a thread.

I need to give this some thought.

For my mate 'Hippy' Andy who passed from stomach cancer a few years ago at the tragically young age of 41. We were both on the Lenny train pretty early on and saw him live before Let Love Rule was released.

John Cale's Songs For Drella also reminds me of him.

Huge Lenny fan here - just as Let Love Rule came out. Recently turned DeathCult [Greg] on to him and his life has changed forever. Those first five Lenny albums are masterpieces.

I know this is a metal site but in memory of my Dad here is his favorite song by his favorite ...Hank Sr.  Every year on the anniversary of his death I play the album with this on it (that was my dads) and have a drink in memory of him...

Well this is a depressing thread. I'll post a different response here, cause that's just how I roll. I always think of my dead stepfather when hearing this song. Why? Because he did. Trust me when I say, it was a blessing. He not only killed himself, but did it right in front of his own mother. It was a blessing because if myself, and or my mother was home at the time, he would have killed us too. Plus it was a blessing because he was a complete psychotic. So anyway, this is my song I think of when thinking of dear old stepdad...

Okay, to show I have half a heart, this was probably my grandmother's favorite song. She just loved Frank Sinatra. She definitely did it her way to. She was one of the most badass women you could ever have the pleasure to meet. At an even five feet tall, she would put anyone and everyone in their place.

She got her start on the Vegas strip working for Bugsy Siegel as a cocktail waitress. She was also one of the first women dealers allowed on the strip. She built a mansion divided into five separate apartments so the family could all live under one roof and still have their own place. It never worked out, but it was a good idea. You could say living in that house gave me a very unique childhood, one that I'm very grateful to have had.

Anyway, this song always reminds me of her. I miss her, but I'll see her again in the next life.

Last week I learned that a lady I had worked with some years back passed away after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. She was a few years older than me and kinda church-y at times (I tried not to use profanity in her presence), but she was a very sweet person with a warped sense of humor; at first we bonded over our mutual love for Monty Python films. She was the type of lady who was everyone's "Mom" at work, if you came in with a cold she had a desk drawer full of tissues, herbal teas, cough drops, etc. that she was willing to share.

Her musical tastes were decidedly non-metal (mostly Beatles and country, if memory serves) but weirdly enough I was responsible for her discovering Lacuna Coil via "Heaven's A Lie," which was a big hit at the time, because I was listening to that CD a lot at my desk. I guess their blend of light-and-dark, heavenly-and-hellish appealed to her. Anyway, I burned her a copy of my Comalies CD and apparently she played it incessantly around her house. (Her husband, who also worked in the same office with us, was not nearly as enamored with LC, at one point he said to me "Hey Keith, thanks a whole f*ckin' lot for turning Val onto that f*ckin' goth-metal band, it's all I hear now," haha.)

Eventually her illness started taking a physical toll on her so she had to quit work and go on disability. The last time I bumped into her and her husband in a local pizza parlor about four years ago, she was wheelchair bound and looked like she had aged about fifty years. In spite of that, she was still all smiles, gave me a hug and even asked me when the next Lacuna Coil album was coming out.

So hey Valerie, this one's for you. Thanks for the cups of herb tea on cold winter mornings and hours of Python related conversations.  I hope for your sake that Heaven is not a lie, because if anyone deserves to be there, it's you. R.I.P.

This was a song my grandmother would often sing, it was her favorite hymn. She passed away on her terms at the age of 92 just 3 weeks after I became a father for the first time, so she never got to meet my daughter, which makes me sad but Im told she saw pictures before she passed so I take comfort in that, and that when she was going that I got to see her the day before it happened and tell her i Love her.

So I think of this song when i think of my grandmother
