New Atarti Console

Atari has announced plans to release their first official home console since 1993. The company announced on Monday that they will be releasing the Ataribox soon, a console that will cater to fans of classic Atari games while providing current gaming content as well. The company announced the news of the console — first teased at E3 — in an email to Atari fans. The email read, “Our objective is to create a new product that stays true to our heritage while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari. Inspired by classic Atari design elements (such as the iconic use of wood, ribbed lines, and raised back); we are creating a smooth design, with ribs that flow seamlessly all around the body of the product, a front panel that can be either wood or glass, a front facing logo, indicator lights that glow through the material, and an array of new ports (HDMI, 4xUSB, SD). We intend to release two editions: a wood edition, and a black/red edition.”

The company said that the console will deliver their classic gaming content, similar to the NES Classic and SNES Classic, as well as “delivering current gaming content.” However, the details behind that are sparse. In fact, all details are sparse at this point, a fact that the company acknowledged in the announcement.

I miss those old games. Wish i could find me one of those old gaming consoles.

Of all the gaming systems, the original 2600 is still my favorite.
