The J. Geils Band founder John Warren Geils Jr. was founded dead at his home in Groton, Massachusetts on Tuesday (April 11th). He was 71 years old.
Former J. Geils Band vocalist Peter Wolf posted a tribute on his Facebook page with a classic photo of the group with the caption ""Thinking of all the times we kicked it high and rocked down the house! R.I.P. Jay Geils".
Although the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominated band started in the late 1960s, they didn't enjoy their biggest success until the early 80s with a string of hits including "Love Stinks," "Freeze-Frame" and their chart topping song "Centerfold", which was fueled by the music video that received healthy airplay on the then new MTV.
The J. Geils Band was one of those early MTV bands that left a lasting impression on me. The 'Centerfold' video with scantily clad girls, 'Freezeframe' with it's cheesy, 80's graphics and 'Love Stinks' with the fish. And any band that had a member named Magic Dick was ok in my book.
Now I kinda wish I still had their greatest hits again.
Ah, well. Rest in Peace, Mr. Geils.

RIP. While I never liked their 80s output they released two of the best live albums of the 70s in 'Full House' & 'Live-Blow Your Face Out'.

For me, they had about 15 songs that I just loved. Back then, I was working in warehouses, Boston area, and radios would be on....all the time...... They were always in heavy rotation.....House Party.... Homework.....Looking For a Love...Come Back..... I would love to read a book about it all..... Obviously Aerosmith was super huge....Boston....The Cars.... Even Billy Squire....they all seemed to somehow overshadow J

I bought a box set of J Geils recently. Had to hear all their albums. Fun music. Good price. Half way through. They have 3 live CDs too. So I heard this song first time today, had to share it.
