Legendary comic Don Rickles, a rapid-fire insulting machine who for six decades earned quite a living making fun of people of all creeds and colors and everyone from poor slobs to Frank Sinatra, has died. He was 90.
Rickles died Thursday at his home in Los Angeles of kidney failure, publicist Paul Schrifin announced.

He was one-of-a-kind. My grandfather used to talk about seeing him live back in 70's in Atlantic City.
If you haven't seen it, check out "Mr. Warmth" from 2007. He was still performing well into his 80's
I do believe it's streaming on Netflix.
Rest in Peace, funnyman.

Wow ! I never realized he was that old. I always enjoyed his shtick and like his old tv show CPO Sharkey.
I had seen Rickles a few times before watching old tv shows/movies with my Dad, but CPO Sharkey was over the top at the time. I doubt anybody that watched it could stop themselves from laughing. Much cruder/ raw than Sandford and Son, or All in the Family.
The Dean Martin Roasts he was on were killer too.

Really kicking myself for not making the effort to go see him live. I grew up in Vegas, but rarely went to any of the shows, because locals usually stay away from them unless you are entertaining family from out of town. Last time we were there to visit, I noticed he was playing at a hotel off the strip. I was going to go, but something came up, then before I knew it, we had to go back home. He was a funny dude that's for sure. Sad to see him go.
I thought "crap-game" - in Kelly's Heroes - was his greatest performance - That was a huge, huge, role that he played....him lugging the machine gun...... Or when he finds out the town is guarded by Tiger Tanks .... Or even his expression when two fellow soldiers are killed by the land mine field scene... A soldier who became part of something bigger than himself...though driven by gold. I gotta buy that dvd and watch it again !
