^^ I've barely heard any Clutch. I think i may have reviewed one of their albums for my friend's e-zine ages ago, but I dont even remember which one it was. So I figured for $1.99 I'd give'em another whirl.

It's a great album, but not very indicative of what kind of band they are now, or have been since basically the album that followed that one. It's very similar to early Tad.

That comparison means nothing to me cuz I've heard of Tad, but never actually heard them. Haha.
Anywhoo, I'll be listening to the Clutch for the first time later today....

When you get done listening to the album, if it's not your thing, check out some newer Clutch. The self-titled follow-up has a bit of that growly, raw vocal style, but the music shifted into a more bluesy, riffy, rock style that they started to perfect on their next album, The Elephant Riders.
I do love the debut, though. "A Shogun Named Marcus" is a classic!

Just finished listening to it for the first time. It was ... meh, OK I guess (shrugs). Kinda got a Helmet vibe off of it. The monotone vox got a little annoying after awhile (Helmet has the same effect on me).
I went back thru my archives last night to find out which Clutch album I'd reviewed years back and it was From Beale Street To Oblivion from 2007. I don't have the CD anymore (must've traded it off at some point) and I honestly remember nothing about it, but from reading my write-up it appears I liked it better than this one.

Another Goodwill stop, scored some damn fine '70s and '80s cheez rock:
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper: The Best of Blue Oyster Cult Cinderella - Once Upon A... Loverboy - Classics: Their Greatest Hits Bon Jovi - s/t*
*yes, I know I've proclaimed Bon Jovi to be "the enemy" for years n' years around here, but this is the album with "Runaway" on it and god dammit, I've always kinda sorta liked that song... (hangs head in shame)
Now that I've officially outed myself as a poser, I'll turn in my Metal Pounders Union Local #666 membership card on my way out...

Today I learned that Blue Cheer was once signed to the same record label as Metallica, Anthrax and Overkill. How about that?
