My friend and I were having this debate. Figured why not ask all of you.
Personally, I gotta go with Cirith Ungol. Yes, Manilla Road have Crystal Logic and some good albums but man King of the Dead and Frost and Fire are truly classics!

I'm not really a fan of either vocalist.

I love Cirith Ungol, but I don't think I've heard anything by Manilla Road. It's not fair for me to vote until I check them out, but they'd have to blow my mind to beat out Cirith Ungol.

I feel bad for Manilla Road, cos they slay too, but Cirith Ungol is f*cking classic kult metal in my eyes. One of the best underground bands from any metal scene/sub-genre, even. So Ungol gets my vote.

On a related note, this band popped up in my youtube. Pretty good, definitely worth listening if you like this kind of epic metal. All the charm of 80s recording quality included.

I gave Manilla Road a chance and listened to their first two albums. Not diggin' 'em, so Cirith Ungol is the easy choice.

Live 'em both. Manilla Road definitely has a larger and more varied catalog but I've been a Frost fan since the 80's so I went with them.

Paradise lost is a great album, but Jerry Fogle, the incredible guitar player in the first 3 albums, is not playing with them. A very good album anyway. I like the other three better, but that is just my opinion
Back in the 80s, the first two were released here in Brazil as LPs but their label switched the covers, so KoTD had FaF cover and vice versa. As a teen back then I could only find and afford King OF The Dead which I overplayed. It is a classic and unique album which I hope you find an affordable copy very soon!

It was a complete tragedy what has happened to Mark Shelton, RIP. I knew of his passing in the time it had happened but I was going through some depression/anxiety times back then when it had happened so I was not listening to any music. I have recovered somehow and now I am listening to the albums. It was a great surprise to see that Google Play music now sells The Deluge and Out Of The AByss in digital format now so I acquired both. The latter was an album I have never heard before so imagine the impact it had on me, an awesome metal classic.
