Watched a cable special on him last night, on TV. He was good. Fun to see how he got so incredibly popular. Johnny Cash...Buddy Holly.... from Texas - with a Mexican sound, here and there... He had major tragedy in his life...wife died on motorcycle... his two children...got killed in house fire....he died at 52.....
Anyways, while watching this 90 minute cable thing... oh yeah, he opened for The Beatles....and was getting paid more money ! 5-6 encores at each show...Beatles were miffed. They all did recordings the same way - one take - pressure on - Sun Records too - Elvis, I think started there.
Even George Harrison Tom Petty Dylan formed group with him. He stood quite still on stage, like Morrison would do....and say his thing.... He opened for Rolling Stones...crowds were 1/2 for Roy too...... but I saw this clip ( that Van Halen did a cover with ) He looks like Dee Dee Ramone...or at least The Ramones dad, ten years before.

I like Roy but I never realized how tragic his life was.
