I used to watch that metal show, because once in a while they had a decent band on, but Eddie Trunk is an idiot. Musical genius he is not. At least not of any band that isn't mainstream garbage.

I voted yah, simply because he does help promote older artists and musicians that the mainstream could give a rat's ass about. That being said, I also find him annoying and his knowledge of metal, only goes so far as his era and a small number of bands.

But I have to give him props, even if his constant name dropping makes me ill after a bit.

My opinion on Eddie is this - hats off to a guy that's made a living in the world of hard rock/heavy metal for decades. He's one of the very few people on earth that's managed to do that, and he's still doing it in 2016.

Do I think he's some type of genius that knows everything about metal? No. Does his taste in music mirror mine? No. So what? He's at least talking and writing about heavy metal in the mainstream media and maybe somebody will start listening to metal because of him. I don't know him personally and I don't listen to his podcast or buy his books. He may be a completely repellent individual in person, but that doesn't concern me.

I started out liking him for the reasons WF posted but after a few seasons of TMS I just couldn't take the belly aching when he would get "stumped" as he acted like a 7 year old. If you get something wrong, it's fine. But he would start claiming he didn't "hear" the question right or the viewer posed it wrong. Whatever. I could name 5 people on this forum that I feel have more knowledge of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal than ET. Maybe his radio show and/or podcasts are better than the TMS show? I don't know? But, hey, Ace was a guest at his wedding, so he's gotta be an okay guy, right?

This is pretty much my view. I like the fact he talks about a lot of the music i grew up on.

I think Eddie is an ok guy. His forte is in 80's and whats popular after. He is very knowledgeable about that and I salute him for that. But he don't know much about thrash, doom, death metal, black metal and the extreme sub-genre's.

I don't judge him based on TMS, because his podcasts and radio show prove he's not that way. Plus, television and such I know they are told to act or be a certain way for entertainment purposes.

His interviews are rather good because he gives his subjects a lot of talk time and isn't quick to interrupt. His books are also kind of fun (although his inclusion of Sammy Hagar and Billy Squier as "essentials" is inane). And I have to give him credit--he's the reason I returned to rock and metal after so many years. It took three episodes of TMS to realize what I walked away from. So yay.

HOWEVER.

The constant ass-kissing and egotism has gotten way out of hand, and eventually my love for trunk dissipated. Now he's simply an afterthought.
