What a shame, he was a good actor.

It's been a Christmas tradition for me to watch Die Hard over the Holidays for many years now.
R.I.P. Alan Rickman.

That's a bummer. R.I.P. sir.
I didn't know this till recently, but Hans Gruber in "Die Hard" was his movie debut. He was already 42 years old and had done mostly stage work and some small roles on British TV at that time. He certainly made the most out of his next 25 years!!

Loved him in that the crappy Costner version of Robin Hood, he totally saved that movie. My favorite with him though was Truly Madly Deeply which I may just re-watch to remind myself how great he really was.

One of my favorite character actors, a real loss.
I'm quite fond of his performance as Metatron in the Kevin Smith movie "Dogma".

My mom just told me as it was announced on Facebook. Recently my mother and I just went through all the Harry Potter movies and he was one of the highlight in all of them. Rowling said he was made for the part of Snape. Of course we all remember him well as Hans Gruber from Die Hard. There was a top 10 video of actors who would have made good Bon villains and he was up there. Sadly, there won't ever be a chance for that now. An amazing actor and a great loss!

Godspeed Hans Gruber! He was the best as a scenery chewing villain. He will be missed.

I saw this bit of news earlier and the name said nothing to me. I'm sorry, but I'm not a movie type of person. I was just wondering what's it about, since it was big in the news. I read Harry Potter, Die Hard, and figured it's another whatever silly fantasy action "actor".
But I saw the face and figured he seems familiar. After going through IMDB I know why...
... it's one of those Jane Austen film adaptations my girlfriend made me watch. I've had to watch it like half a dozen times. I remember him clearly now.
Luckily we're married now and I don't have to watch those anymore.
But damn, based on that, he was a good actor. I don't know why costume dramas get all the best actors. I guess you need good acting if you're not using big explosions, CGI or fast cuts. He must have been a wasted talent on these big Hollywood productions.

That's my favorite role of his. Hans Gruber is right up there too. Fare thee well, Mr. Rickman.

The last thing I saw him in was "CBGB," where he played nightclub owner Hilly Kristal. He put in a great performance in that flick, very dry.

A co-worker and myself were talking all day about Alan. What a great voice he had. He still ranks up there in my top 5 of all time greatest villains ever in that of Hans Gruber in Die Hard.
