| Just curious to see - whom you feel kicked ass in the 90's. It was a tough decade for me - to have witnessed - being a non-fan of grunge - etc - that came it's way. The party festival slowed down - big time. Who do you say did best - in the carrying of the Metal torch of tradition - in the 90's. Dave Mustaine's Megadeth James Hetfield's Metallica | |

| I'm pretty much Team Deth nowadays.
In the '80s I would have willingly taken a bullet for any of the members of Metallica. Post-1990, not so much. Though I can listen to the Black Album nowadays, I thought it was heresy when it was a new release. Load and ReLoad weren't much better, and yet they continued to slide...
Megadeth had their own trips thru the daisies for a while in the 90s (Cryptic Writings and Risk) but they started off the decade with Rust In Peace and Countdown to Extinction, two albums that still sound pretty damn good to this day.

| Neither of those bands are anywhere near my radar. They were on their way out since 1986. Even Slayer was losing their edge. Death metal MURDERED them all.
For thrash metal, it's Sodom and Sabbat. Unlike most other thrash metal bands, they didn't let the sign of the times get to them, and they released some of their best albums during that time period, with Tapping the Vein, Code Red, Evoke, Fetishism, and The Dwelling coming to mind.
For heavy/power/speed metal, I pick Saxon, Motörhead, Attack, Riot, Mercyful Fate, Cauldron Born, U.D.O., Raven, Anthem, Running Wild, Grave Digger, and Blind Guardian. Had Manilla Road and Cirith Ungol not split up around the turn of the decade, then they would've still been releasing even more good music by then.
Black metal, death metal, and doom metal reigned supreme during the decade. Far too many great releases out there for me to mention.
Progressive metal had reached a turning point, as per Dream Theater's second album. It suddenly became the thing to make as many soulless, wank-laden bilge that they're quite known for. Even Fates Warning tanked since then. |

Agreed. I love "Rust" and really like "Countdown" and "Youthanasia" and "Risk" and "Cryptic" still get spins every now and again. But, other than the "Black" album getting a few spins from me, I couldn't care less for 90's Metallica.

| Megadeth made Rust In Peace, while Metallica made "The Black Album".
That says it all...

| Megadeth easily. I honestly feel they succeeded quite well at streamlining their sound in the 90s. Rust, Countdown, Youthanasia, and Cryptic Writings are all great albums. | |

| I guess I will have to choose Megadeth, even though the last album of theirs I truly loved came out in 1990. I can live without both bands for the remainder of the decade.

Good one! Megadeth. Rust In Peace drew me in and the next couple of albums maintained it.

| I have been buying a Megadeth CD - each month - Ebay - cheap - Never really knew their music - but knew about 5-10 songs - Well, I bought Cryptic Writings - and felt it a VERY good release - and I thought about putting this poll out there - respecting everyone's say - Mustaine -I knew had a tremendous chip on his shoulder about Metalica - It's cool seeing the tip of the cap - from the results - I wont bother with 2000 - 2015. | |

| Of these bands' 90s output, I only have:
Rust in Peace Countdown to Extinction Youthanasia
vs
The Black Album
So for me obviously this is not even close. Rust in Peace alone would have sealed the deal.
I have heard Load. And I kind of liked it. But not in a way that I would want to own it and listen to it again.

| Metallica lost their drive and identity when they got rich. Now they are just a money making business. In the beginning, they were real metal dudes making cutting edge music. | |

| Even if the only album 'Deth released during this decade was RIP, they'd it would be a landslide in there favor. C2E and youthanasia are icing on the cake. Those three albums are a great run of music. Cryptic had a few songs I really liked as well. | |

| Megadeth by a country mile. Who's the 2 that voted for Metallica? Own up to it, ya clowns!! _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.
