Just found this out, never even knew he had cancer. A shame. Wes was never a great director per se--bland photography, lukewarm framing, lack of effective blocking, sloppy editing--however as a conceptualist he was the framework of the postmodern horror story. That's where his influence hit me the biggest. His writing was also always rather intelligent for a genre that was brimming with lazy idiocy. I really wanted to see one more film of oomph and triumph before the end of his career.

That is sad, 76 is obviously not old by any stretch, but cancer has no age limits.

RIP Wes. Would watch a grip of your movies if the family allowed me to do so.

He was the creative force behind the original "A Nightmare On Elm Street" and "The Hills Have Eyes". Although I never liked his Scream movies... overall, he was a great horror master and visionary!

I haven't seen one thing on my Yahoo news page about this. I didn't have any knowledge regarding Wes Craven having cancer either. This is truly a disappointment.

The Nightmare movies were some of the only gory horror movies I've enjoyed because of the humor and I also liked the first Scream.
