Pyogenesis is one of the most baffling bands I've ever come across. Even more baffling now. They began as a fantastic doom/death band, then morphed into something a bit more doom/rock. Then, strangely, they went full-blown pop/punk. If you've ever heard Devin Townsend's Punky Bruster one-off, Pyogenesis could have been the inspiration (I doubt they were, though).
Here's a clip from their Ignis Creatio EP:
And one from their last album, She Makes Me Wish I Had a Gun, before breaking up in 2002:
Not sure how you go from doom/death to punk, but they did it. Now, 13 years later, they've reunited and are about to release a new album...which seems to be much heavier.
What a weird band. Haha. Of course, I like even their punk albums (well, some of them; some tracks, like "Love Nation Sugarhead," are complete shit), but I definitely prefer the early stuff. This new track is pretty damn good, though.
Still, absolutely bizarre the path this band has taken over the years.

Not terribly familiar with their tunes, but I remember all the More Br00tal Than Thou types made quite an uproar in the underground 'zines when the band changed gears and went from Death Metal to full-on Green Day...
Another band called Xysma did something similar around the same time period - they started as a grindcore band but over time they changed into industrial/metal and eventually they were a pop rock band before they split up. Once again, the More Br00tal than Thou crowd were pissed and proclaimed them untr00.

It's very bizarre. I mean, as an artist I get trying new things, but as a fan it's just weird.

Meh, any style they've tried didn't turn out all that good. They're like the Bride of secular music.

Have you heard Ignis Creatio? That EP is a great doom/death album. It's a shame they moved away from that style.
