Vern Gagne RIP

Verne Gagne passed away yesterday at age 89. Verne was best known as an umpteen time AWA Champion, and also as trainer to later NWA champion Ric Flair, as well as a mentor to WWF Champion Terry Boulder (Hulk Hogan).
The stuff he came up with in the 60's and 70's is pretty damn classic, from the Crusher (Reggie Leskowski) to Baron Von Raschke, to the High Flyers (Gagne and Brunzell). Salut and RIP from Minnesota Wrestling Fans Verne.

Yeah, I saw that on 411 this morning. I also had no idea he killed his nursing home roommate by body slamming him. Both were suffering from dementia and neither of them knew why it happened. The guy ended up dying from it and it was ruled a homicide but the family of the victim didn't want to press charges because of Verne's condition. They said he had absolutely no short term memory but could vividly remember the past in great detail.

A legend from my childhood, he was probably one of the first wrestlers I ever saw on television.
