Subject: Tankard - What not to do as a band! Tue Mar 10, 2015 5:52 pm
I do not know if such trash happens in the US as well. In real life there are some strong rivalries between cities and sport clubs. Yet those things have nothing to do with music and should be kept private. Noone cares which soccer club a musician supports and certainly not which club he hates. For music it is meaningless. Yet, for almost every interview Gerre thinks it is cool to spread insults and hatred at other people who supports a certain other soccer club. Maybe he thinks his band needs some extra promotion? This is stupid. It is obvious that he does not want fans who support a certain other soccer club, I will never ever buy a Tankard record.

What? I don't care about soccer but I do care about Tankard so I'll keep buying their albums. Maiden talks about soccer too. Who cares?

It's unlikely that he'll care what you think then!
I do think it's pretty short sighted to alienate rival fans who might just buy your records. Steve Harris is pretty smart about this stuff. He might say that he loves West Ham but I've never heard him say that he hates Millwall (Although, as a West Ham fan, I'm sure he does)

Seems like no big deal to me. I couldn't care less about soccer but do like Tankard, so something as trivial as that doesn't bother me. And that really goes for just about every band and their beliefs (politics, etc.)

As an American I will never understand the popularity of "football" outside the US, but as a music fan, it does seem dumb to intentionally insult a faction of your potential fan base with a non-musical opinion.

I guess it would be the equivalent of the guys in Anthrax saying "We're Yankees fans. Mets fans are dicks. Screw those guys."

In one interview he said, that his worst nightmare is to get buried at a cemetary full of fans of a certain other soccer club. This is a very stupid statement. Maybe he drunk too much beer?

Given their sense of humor I wouldn't really take what they say seriously.

Knowing how tribal some football fans can be and the levels of utter hatred for rival teams I would take it totally seriously.

So wait, Eintracht Frankfurt is the team they like?
That's so cool, because as little as I know about soccer (hate most of it), the one team I've felt sympathetic towards has been Eintracht Frankfurt. I've been to a couple of places in Germany, but Frankfurt mostly, and somehow the fact they had a team that wasn't even at the top tier league, but still got support, was cool and resonated with me.
I played Pro Evolution Soccer 6 at some point when it was new, and I picked Eintracht Frankfurt as my team to play season mode with. Just because of my past experiences. I'm not German, and I've never seen them play, nor do I come from a country where people play or follow soccer enthusiasticly, and I have grown to dislike a lot of the money-losing league-breaking billionaire-owned brands/franchises like Chelsea, ManU, Barcelona etc.
So, I should definitely go buy some Tankard shit now.
It's not like the band is out there to please everyone. If they were, they wouldn't play heavy metal.

I just bought Tankard best of “ Noise Years “.
The top four - well - Tankard seems to be a mixture of them all. With sarcasm.
They come real close to bordering upon punk. Rebellious for sure. I think of Circle Jerks meets Stormtroopers of Death. Nuclear Assault.

Barcelona is owned by the fans, there is no billionaire and ManU do have a billionaire but he takes a lot of money out of the club rather than putting it in. Chelsea, Man City & PSG are the clubs that have relied heavily on a sugar daddy owner, and I agree that they are ruining football.

Huge fan of soccer. But honestly, i tend to dislike today's modern football. It has become way too business oriented, and playing is no longer as genuine as it used to be.
I still like to watch the European Nations Cup and the World Cup though.
That said, screw soccer. I prefer Tankard much more and i own all of their studio albums, with the exception of Disco Destroyer. A bit repetitive, but you know there always are some excellent tracks on each of their releases:
