Favorite Messiah-era Candlemass Offering ?

...love "Nightfall",but have to go with the majestic "Ancient Dreams".From Messiah's vocals to the music and cover artwork that one to me just plain kills !

Nightfall is one of those perfect albums from the 80's that came without much fanfare here in the states. Love it. Dammit, now I gotta go buy it.

That lp was pretty dissed by Leif Edling, I still think it's great despite his and the media's, at the time, disdain for it. However, I believe "Nightfall" to be the greatest epic doom metal masterpiece of all time!

"Nightfall" and "Ancient Dreams" both sit as my two faves.

I have a real hard time picking between the two of them.

That said - if I was forced at gunpoint - I'd have to pick "Ancient Dreams", but it's probably because that was my introduction to the band.

Candlemass is one of my favorite bands - and I like all their stuff but those two albums are their masterpieces - no doubt about it.

I remember hearing "Tales of Creation" and being a little disappointed in it. I guess that was at the tail end of Messiah's first era with them and he was coming unglued.

Can't agree w/you on Tales, I love that one. Most of that material was written long before that by Leif when he was in Nemesis.

Oh I love "Tales of Creation" - don't get me wrong. Candlemass doesn't have a bad album (at least that I've heard). But I was just comparing it to AD and N.
