I have been pretty ignorant [ie: ignoring] Ozzy since around "The Ultimate Sin". Never cared for Zakk or those albums. My roomie inquired about the "new" guitarist and I had no info. So, I looked up Gus G. Played a couple of his Ozzy show solos and said "This guy is lame"!!! Then, I looked up his work with Firewind, and was completely blown away. Can I get an explanation here? Why did this kid kick ass before Ozzy and now is a tired replica? Sharon?

I'm only familiar with his playing on the last Ozzy album.
It would be my guess that he was brought in as a hired hand by Sharon to lay down some solos and play some rhythm on tracks that were already fleshed-out. I doubt he had little or anything to do with writing of the material.

Gus G is great in other bands he was/is in (Firewind, Dream Evil, Mystic Prophecy, Nightrage). Not sure what happened in the Ozzy stint.

What I find amazing is that friggin' Adam Wakeman is in his touring band!!!! WHAT?!?!?!?! Gus and Wakeman should do an album together. I would dig that. Maybe they already did and I don't know about it? hmmmmm.
Glad someone else feels the same way about the Zakk albums...........

I don't think he's ever recorded a single rhythm for Ozzy.

Mystic Prophecy is great. A top 10 band for me, I have all their albums. I'm not familiar with Gus' other projects, and that includes what he did with Ozzy.

Are you suggesting someone else played guitar on Ozzy's Scream album? Gus G. is the only one credited with guitars on that album. He has no song-writing credits though.
Adam Wakeman is only credited with keyboards, although he plays guitar and has a few song-writing credits on the album. Odd that he wouldn't take credit for any guitar parts if he did play on it.

I'm saying the producer/songwriter that Ozzy worked with on that album wrote all the songs and played the rhythms before Gus G was even hired.

That's pretty much what I implied on my initial post.
I don't think he wrote anything for the album and if he did play anything else other than solos, he was given a basic track that someone else wrote and played for Gus to follow along. I'd imagine he was given fairly strict parameters to follow for the albums production.

Gus is amazing regardless if it's with Ozzy or Firewind. The dude is still so young.

I'm saying the producer/Ozzy were open about the fact that Gus played/wrote absolutely nothing but the solos, which were slapped on right at the end.

I don't doubt that Gus didn't write anything. He's a hired hand. But that leaves the question..Who else played uncredited guitar on the album? Kevin Churko, Adam Wakeman or someone else?

The only information I can find on Kevin Churko says that he is a drummer, I doubt he recorded the rhythm guitar parts. An uncredited session player is a far more likely theory.

Or Adam Wakeman...
Quote :
Adam Wakeman is an English musician and the current keyboardist and rhythm guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne's band; he also plays keyboards and guitar off-stage for Black Sabbath.
In one of those clips that Sax posted earlier, Ozzy introduces him as his keyboard player (and son of Rick Wakeman). But I guess it's not out of the question for him to play guitar on the album, albeit weird not to take credit for it.

I thought I read that Churko played every bit of it but I can't remember where I read that.

they are an excellent band. I have really enjoyed his stuff although the solo album was pretty meh.
