Ulver

Any fans of this band? If so, what cds of theirs would you recommend?

I've heard a lot of good things about Ulver, but they are one of those bands I just haven't heard yet.

NP: Lord - Ascendence

their first album Bergtatt was ok. although standard black metal affair. skipping that acoustical garbage of a second album, their 3rd album Nattens Madrigal was great! but they started getting to weird & eccentric after that & i lost interest. now they are nothing more than a hip-hop, ambient, electronica band with nothing to offer anyone.

Wow! Does not sound like something I would like at all.

If they're like mc666 has described I'm sure I won't like them either.

Sounds like they are really all over the place, musically speaking. Not my cup of tea, that's for sure.

Well I honestly have to say I never heard the original 3 MC666 was talking about, but I own the album Blood Christmas and think it is a masterpiece. I am interested in the other albums but was told they were like grindcore. (dont know if it is true)

These guys are very talented and can make music out of the wierdest techinical soundscapes. They are ambient and trippy. The vocals are by far the best since Maynard came into the scene in the early 90's. I honeslty think the lead singer of Ulver is the new sound, he is an amazing vocalist. However I have heard that no Ulver album is alike and to capture an exact sytle music they are is impossible. Blood Christmas is very good, and I am buying the new album which so far the three tracks I heard are nothing like Blood Christmas, it seems real mellow and ambient this time around.

The lead singer is in other bands (used to be in Arcturus) and has a band called Head Control System which is more metal then the Ulver I know, You may want to try that out, it MIGHT be more something you are looking for.

do you mean 2005s Blood Inside (which features a track called Christmas)? it's definitely not a metal album in any way shape or form. just so people are aware.

they were never a grindcore band, but played black metal originally.

Yes I do me Blood Inside, my bad, see what happens when you fight insonia, and your very right, it is not Metal at all. Sorry for any confusion.
