I'm kind of obsessed with SB recently. I was enamoured with their hit songs like True, Gold, Paint Me Down, etc. and stuff like Heaven is a Secret. The fact they would combine 80s new wave/synthpop with funk, jazz and soul music put them right up my alley but I didn't realize their brilliance until recently. These guys got back together in the last few years and are putting out some new stuff. Anyone else a fan?

I just know the song True from back in the day. I'm more of a Level 42 guy.
The guy does seem to have a very nice voice, though.

They were a sharp lookin' bunch of dudes, I'll give'em that much.
With that whole suits-and-martinis image they had goin' on, they seemed like they'd be the perfect band to do a James Bond movie theme, but I guess they never got a call from 007 Central.

I like dudes voice and my ol lady plays the crap out of them. My favorite bands from that time and style are more along the lines of Madness & Oingo Boingo.

True is probably the quintessential 80's meme for me. I hear that chorus and I'm transported like that. A few years ago I dug into their work and found a lot to enjoy, but nothing really lasted like that song. Quite the usual for many a one-hit-wonder band.

I hate them, really really hate them. Which makes it all the more annoying that I love this song.

Yes, I'm a fan. "Gold" was my favorite song of theirs when I was a kid. I only had Parade and Singles Collection. Parade is a good album with lots of their best tracks like "Highly Strung", "Round and Round", "I'll Fly For You", "Nature of the Beast", and "Only When You Leave". I was never a big enough fan to collect their other albums, though.

"True" is a great song. I'm a big 80's music fan. I have a really good Tears For Fears collection called Gold. It pretty much covers everything you need.

I had every intention of doing so, but then people starting responding in the positive, so I let it alone. Must've been those "Don't Be A D*ck Today" pills my wife bought me.

sleepers: Stranglers "Feline" and almost any Comsat Angels album.

That's a killer band and a great album. Japan has a lot of good albums. Have you ever heard Rain Tree Crow ? Basically Japan, but without the name.

Not to hijack this, Joe, (Spandau rocks) but I like Rain Tree Crow. Also David Sylvan "Secrects Of The Beehive" featuring "Orpheus" . Sylvian did other stuff with Czukay, Fripp, Bill Nelson, Mel Collins, & Karn w/Peter Murphy, etc. But if one liked Spandau Ballet, Japan's Quiet Life " might be a good investmest

I feel that way about a lotta songs Manny.I think it's cause I remember the daze when I was young and cute and ladies would listen whatever was on my tapedeck. Now I'm old and gnarly and they just want to listen to NPR news. (Or the Glen Campbell alzheimers album). Back to Spandau Ballet.

Hated the song True as a teen and hate it now..... I find it extremely annoying, much like a commercial jingle. Not a fan.
There are so many other much better bands from the new wave/80's synth era - take The Cure for example (and I am Crue fan)
