While I have zero respect or patience for the genuinely corrupt, reactionary and unnecessarily violent, there is a trend I'm noticing in a lot of these "incidents" that are going viral.

I mean, first, you have stuff like the Ferguson, MO, Michael Brown shooting where the entire town devolves into idiot rioting over what is alleged to be a "racially motivated" overreaction only to have the forensic evidence completely clear the officer and prove beyond a doubt that Brown was reaching for the officer's gun.  I mean, holy crap!  And nary a word of apology to the officer, nobody in the town says, "We over-reacted and that was wrong."  It was just a lot of morons aching for a reason to go nuts as near as I can tell.

Then, you have all of these instances of people filming the police.  While I've seen some that are clearly violations by the police, there are just as many videos of someone hovering near a cop screaming, "I HAVE RIGHTS!  I'M FILMING YOU BECAUSE I HAVE RIGHTS!"  Hell, I'd beat someone with a shoe for getting in my face at work as-is and I'm not (generally) faced with the threat of physical violence as a matter of course in my line of work.

It's important to watch the bee watchers, but some people are getting stupid about it.  There's a big difference between firmly stating that you have rights when you feel they're being violated and just screaming like a moron about it, which incidentally looks shady as hell.  Ever worked at a returns counter in retail?  Watch the idiots who make the most noise.  Almost 100% of the time, they're making noise because they're trying to scam you and they hope you'll give them what they want just to get them to shut up and leave.

Not universally applicable when it comes to interactions with the police, but something worth keeping an eye on.
That's complete BS, the shooting WAS racially motivated. Darren Wilson is a f*cking murderer, Brown was NOT reaching for the cop's gun, all the eyewitnesses(including white construction workers) say he had his hands up when he was shot.

The protesters are not "morons looking for an excuse to go nuts" your words show how painfully ignorant you are about this case.

Nobody owes that asshole an apology for anything.

really?
so the fact that Darren Wilson went to the hospital for being assaulted and possibly blinded in one eye was done by who then?
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/08/20/missouri-cop-was-badly-beaten-before-shooting-michael-brown-says-source/

FOX news is total BS, of course they're saying Wilson was assaulted, they cater to the their racist right-wing fanbase that thinks all minorities are thugs.

I can't take anyone seriously who actually believes what Faux news says.

I'll never forget the time I flipped off a cop as he passed me because he had been tailgating for miles. Of course it was night so I didn't know it was a cop until he passed, and of course I was a scared little 19 year old puppy when he pulled me over, but damn was he pissed off. Now I wish I would've held my ground a bit more; dude blinded me with his brights in the rear view anyway. Not cool.

Although I do believe that FoxNews is horrible (twisting news stories to fit their agenda, etc),it would appear that alternet.org is exactly the same but from the left wing point of view so probably take what they report with a grain of salt too.

^^This. What's going on in the wacky world of Facebook is that everyone is posting from fringe bias media sites (and as an ex-conservative who watched Fox News constantly in another life, I can verify it's quite obvious they lean waaaay to the right). It's driving me batty because almost all of it is clickbait firing opposition at the other side while the articles are wildly inconsistent and exploitative. For example, the above alternet.org story is an opinion piece. The Fox News article doesn't carry a reliable source. This is how bad journalism has become in the past two decades.

I wasn't there, I didn't see what happened, I don't know these people, and I don't trust the media to tell me so. So riding the fence is the only available option for me, as it always has been.

Well I trust what the eyewitnesses have to say about the incident, and every single one of them corroborates that Brown was not attacking Wilson in any way. Also the police department was caught red-handed lying about details of the altercation(I.E. they claimed Brown was 35 feet from Wilson when killed, but in actuality he was 138 feet away, which dispels the notion that Brown was "charging" at Wilson).

It's disturbing how many people i've seen try to justify police shootings of unarmed minorities.

It should be noted that I most certainly do not believe all cops are like that, but Wilson(along with the cop that killed a black man in a store for holding a toy rifle) is a complete and utter disgrace to the badge and uniform.

I trust the facts. The evidence from the ME and from Brown's own ME support Wilson. The "witnesses" include some guy who said he saw Wilson shoot Brown but when pressed admitted he just heard shots fired and didnt actually see the event - and this is not the only witness to recant once their testimony was examined. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but not the facts.

Then there is the New York Times - who published Wilson's home address and then later said oops, we didnt mean to do that. Right.

any yes, Fox leans right but then just about all the other majors are clearly left leaning (CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, etc). Its nice to have a change from the left leaning majority who all put their own spin on things and cover only what they think advances their cause.

Actually MSNBC has a number of people on it that also lean pretty far to the right, CBS news is also pretty right-wing at times.

It's not a refreshing change of pace when Faux resorts to flat out lies and frequently peddles racism, xenophobia, misogyny and homophobia.

The other channels do not only cover what they believe advances their "cause".

Any way you slice it, the way Robert McCulloch handled this was a complete joke, he deliberately tampered with the grand jury proceedings to ensure that he got the not guilty verdict.

and Fox presents those with left leanings as well. MSNBC, CNN,  puts racists, women haters, liars and those who hate religion on the airwaves all time and try to pass it off as news. What makes it even more evil is that they choose what they want to report and what they wont - i.e. lets edit out stuff harmful to Obama before the last presidential election. Fox provides a good alternative to mass left indoctrination that has been allowed to spread for way too long under the guise of news".

and back on topic - i think police should wear cameras on their person. It may not solve all the issues but i think it would go a long way to ensuring police and defendants have protection.

Their left leanings are a joke, they are often thinly disguised right-wingers in disguise.

There is no "mass left indoctrination" in the least, you're totally delusional if you honestly believe that LOL.

Faux is a terrible alternative as they pick and chooses what they report on all the time, they'll do everything they can to try and demonize minorities and poor people.

One of my other friends on another forum knew someone who works there. According to him the president of the company is a paranoid racist who believes all black people are evil and drives around in a bulletproof car all the time.

There is no stuff "harmful" to Obama that the other networks deliberately left out(don't give me that Benghazi bullsh*t).

I'm simply going by the account of someone who used to work at FOX, there is nothing at all "delusional" about that(it was also mentioned in a book).

Here's the threads:

It's certainly much more credible then the vast majority of the nonsense that the network peddles.

Also the account of Roger Ailes being a paranoid racist is described in this book:

As someone who lives very near where all this about Michael Brown went down and continues to go down, I'll just say this: You couldn't pay me enough money to be a cop in this country. I'd go clean public toilets first. And to be a cop in this area right now? Alex Rodriguez-style money still wouldn't do it.

I saw that Barkley article earlier.  I hated him as a player but I find myself liking him more and more in his post-playing career.

I loved how he spoke out when some Seahawks players apparently said QB Russell Wilson wasn't "black enough" too.

Barkley is very plain spoken - but often a lot of self-contradictions. He is often on in Philly with Howard Eskin and the whole N-Word conversation he had was very two-faced imho. That being said, his comments are a refreshing change from hypocrisy Chris Rock is now spewing.

btw - where are all the Ferguson protesters now that a Bosnian Man beaten to death with hammer by two black teens & a mexican youth? I do not see them lined up protesting against this hateful crime.

Chris Rock is not spewing "hypocrisy" in the least, you and Barkley are so full of it.

So you're saying all black people are evil monsters just because of those two? That's incredibly disingenuous.

This article sums things up pretty well:

I may not be a subject matter expert on much, but I do have a law degree and I have been involved in criminal defense on both the state and federal level. Some of the clients that I have known have had backgrounds and rap sheets that read like a demon's resume. I have been in prisons to visit them and I've been part of their defense. I've also had friends murdered. I've had to tell police what guns a friend owned and where he stored them so they could ascertain where his murderer obtained the murder weapon. I've seen the face of crime up close and personal from both sides. I can say with some authority that vast majority of reporters know next to nothing about the law and if you believe their reports you are stupid. I can also say with certainty that opinion pieces about a crime are usually complete garbage. I can also say that I knew Officer Wilson would be not be indicted because the facts of the case did not warrant an indictment. I find it baffling that Brown has been chosen as a martyr for the cause of police brutality and racist police. There are far more credible candidates for that position than him.

Do not generalize my words. Where did I say evil monsters? I said Rock is a huge hypocrite - because he is. He criticizes rich people at the extremely expensive private school he sends his kids to. Then he says white people have to own not only their actions but the actions of their parents because its unfair they can inherit money they didnt work for. Perhaps it would be nice to hear how he is going to give his millions away to charity and not to his children upon his passing.

As for Barkley, I like listening to him but I did find his comments on the N Word to be contradictory. I think he is spot on a lot of other issues. I am allowed to disagree with people without accusations of thinking black people are evil monsters.

and please answer my question: where are all the michael brown protesters at now that someone has been murdered by a gang of black and mexican youths with hammers? Surely they should protest that another person was killed?

Yes the facts did warrant an indictment, it's shown that the police flat-out lied about how far Michael Brown was from Wilson.

Not all reporters are nearly as ignorant of the law as you would like to believe, you don't know everything.

Yes crime is bad, no sh*t sherlock, but you cannot honestly say with a straight face that there is not a noticeable pattern of white officers killing unarmed black men with zero justification.

I'm not "generalizing" anything, you're demonstrating white privelege.

Rock is NOT a hypocrite in the least, but you sure as hell are. All of his criticism are very true whether you want to admit to them or not.

Another important piece you should read:
