| People have been recommending this band to me for a while now, but tonight is the first time I've ever heard by them. Sounds killer, just like everyone promised. http://www.nehrecords.com/SHOP/SeaHags.htm The album has been remastered and reissued with two bonus tracks and some expanded artwork and such. Just a heads-up. |

| Classic, Classic, Classic. Can i say it anymore. Not a week goes past when i don't listen to at least a few songs on that record. Its got a great underlying darkness to it that other sleaze metal bands didn't have. Maybe cause they were originally from Seattle. Somewhere in between Faster Pussycat and Mother Love Bone with Guns N' Roses gritty street appeal. | |

| I saw the Sea Hags live when I was in college... let's just say that either they were better on album, or I caught them on an off night, cuz they were pretty awful. My friends and I left about halfway through their set. | |

| I always get them confused with Smashed Gladys for some reason. It doen't help matters much that they just re-released the Smashed Gladys album as well. |

| I vaugely remember these guys. I think a buddy of mine had their cassette back in the day. From what I just heard on the website, it sounds pretty good. I guess these guys just got lost in the shuffle of all the hair-bands signed in the late 80's-early 90's. Too bad. | |

I'd say so, but we aren't real strict about what styles go in the two music rooms. Some metal can easily slip into here and some things people would probably not consider metal slips into the Heart of Metal room. It's all good. | |

| I liked the seahag from popeye better than these guys......."Under The Night Stars" was a cool song,i think the bass player died of a drug overdose? and their guitarist (Frankie) went on to play in Stephen Pearcy's solo band if memory serves. |

| I guess everyone's perception of true 'metal' is different. It's all good. For example - I kinda consider stuff from the 70s hard rock that is - to be under the banner of metal. Led Zeppelin, Rush, Deep Purple - all that. I also consider the bands from the glam metal scene to be metal. Sea Hags would be an example of this. Just me though. Didn't mean to highjack the thread. Carry on. |

| Oh ... and some stuff that people consider metal nowadays like Evanescence, Disturbed, Nickelback, etc. All that to me is not metal, but hard alternative.
K - done now.

| I actually 'like' some of it - but I just wouldn't classify it as metal at all. It actually irritates me when I meet someone and they are all like "Oh I love metal so much!!". And I'm like ... "Cool - who are some of your favorite bands?" And they go "Oh like Evanescence, Linkin Pawk, Nickelback". I'm just like ... "wow, you really don't even know what metal is do you?" |

:) Evanescene is a symphonic metal band. Disturbed is modern metal. Nickelback is alt-rock. =) |

| I'll break it down a bit more: Evanescence: Gothic 'Nu' Metal Disturbed: Nu Metal Nickelback: Hard Alternative I pretty much agree with Nickelback, but "NU" metal is actually not a true form of metal, rather it is basically another form of hard alternative. The song structures have more in common with alt than metal. Thus the term 'nu metal' is actually an oxymoron. |

The song structures have more in common with alt than metal. Thus the term 'nu metal' is actually an oxymoron. Nu-metal is kind of a tough genre to use. I try not to use it. I mean, Korn is called nu-metal, but so is the Deftones and Spineshank, and none of them sound the same. I just say modern metal because it's like a catch-all genre. I still see Nickelback as alternative rock, like 3 Doors Down. As for Evanescence, I completely disagree. The radio has skewed the perception of them. They're no different than bands like Xandria, Stream Of Passion and Within Temptation, or bands like Leaves' Eyes, Epica and After Forever without the death vocals. And there are actually some early Evanescence songs with death metal vocals. |

Yeah, I can understand that - and I agree! - Quote :

Agree here also. They are alt rock with a hard edge. - Quote :

It's been a while since I've heard Evanescence - I'll admit. But the stuff I was hearing on "Fallen" really reminded me of some Korn stuff. Heck, Amy Lee even sings a duet with Korn on their live album. They even toured with Korn this summer! I do agree however, that Evanescence started down this path. Their early stuff is actually quite metallic in it's makeup. But they really did introduce a lot of elements of alternative in their tracks on "Fallen". I never did get "The Open Door" yet. I like Evanescence actually - but in light of other bands like Sirenia and Nightwish, I bored of them. I will say that Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil have taken a 'queu' from Evanescence on their newer works and have started assimilating quite a similar sound. Bands that I'm really into are Nightwish, Leaves' Eyes, Sirenia, Tristania. These bands have a purely unadulterated sound that I would consider true metal. I really do enjoy discussing this matter - and I hope I've not come across in a condescending way at all. That's not my intention. I just love talking about metal - heck, music ... in general. |
