Comedian/actor Tracy Morgan is in critical condition after a six car pile up which left one person dead and several others injured.

This happened on the NJ Turnpike so local news media has been all over it. Last I checked, they think the driver of a tractor trailer fell asleep behind the wheel and caused the pile up.

The news this AM sez that Tracy is still considered "critical" cuz he's got a bunch of broken bones (one of which required surgery) but he's responding to family members. Either way he's expected to be in the hospital for several weeks (at least).

Yea, I read this morning he has a broken femur, several broken ribs and a broken nose.

So that's who my mom was talking about a few days ago. Very sad and as speaking as one who drove a truck, it shows the importance of making sure you get plenty of sleep and if you get tired, use some of your break hours to take a nap. I've done some stupid things as a truck driver, but I NEVER let myself fall asleep at the wheel.

Today's paper sez that five months after the accident, Tracy Morgan is still struggling with the fallout from this accident. Apparently he suffered a "traumatic brain injury" in the crash that he may never fully recover from.

TBI's are notoriously unpredictable, affecting everyone differently. A friend of mine's son (9 at the time) ran out into the street after a ball and was struck by a car. He was kept in a medically induced coma for a while. He has since recovered most of his physical abilities, but I think still struggles a bit with school work. He basically had to learn to walk and talk again. That was two or three years ago; his youth helped a lot. They were warned that there could be personality changes, but have not noticed that, thank God.

Coincidentally, I just saw Tracy Morgan's name the other day in a context unrelated to his accident and wondered what was going on with him.
