I won't speak for Boris on this one, but what I've heard of Fried indicates that it's one of Julian's best.
I have some comps and the deluxe eds of Peggy Suicide, which is a totally @%$#ing brilliant record, and Jehovahkill, which has moments, but is probably one of those "You'll enjoy it more if you're an angry pagan/atheist" deals.
Sometimes, dear Julian disappears up his own ass a bit much for my liking and Jehovahkill was the start of the trend of him seeing himself as some grand sage who rocked as hard as Iggy Pop (Here's a hint: NOBODY rocks as hard as Iggy). Most of what came before that album is solid from what I've heard though.

I agree with most of what has been said, Fried was less polished and rawer than the rest of Julian's 80's stuff with more of a nod to the sound he had later on with Peggy Suicide & Jehovahkill. It's still pretty accessible, if you don't find this too left of centre, you'll like the rest of it
I got into this album in about '87 when I was opening up to non metal music and I loved it from the word go.
