All I've heard is Abigail and Them, and Them is my favorite of the two.

I always preferred Mercyful Fate over KD's solo stuff. That said, Fatal Portrait still gets an occasional spin.

I prefer MF to KD, but my favorite KD is Fatal Portrait followed by Abigail.

I'll probably be in the minority here but The Eye gets my vote. Abigail is a very, very close second.

I'm going to be the outcast here and go against the grain. Although I do like all of his releases, my personal favorite is Voodoo. An excellent album. The title track is superb.
That's Dimebag Darrell guesting on guitar .

Your not the only outcast. Although picking my favorite KD album is extremely hard because I like every release just as much as the next, I'll go with Voodoo as well.

I'm with you on this. Like them all but The Eye stands above the rest. Really dig the concept and execution on that one.
I'll also say Abigail II gets my vote for most underrated of the KD discography.

I'm a pretty big KD fan. Of the ones listed, I'd have to go with "Them" with "Conspiracy" barely behind it. Personally, I think all of the albums are good. "Abigail II" my least favorite. My overall favorite is "Puppet Master". Love that album for some reason. "House of God" is up there as well. Now that I think about it "Graveyard" and "Voodoo" get quite a bit of play here as well. I guess I'm all over the place.

Abigail is probably my favorite, if I had to choose. Conspiracy would be my second choice.

Abigail all the way, though KD really doesn't have any weak albums IMO. The first time I heard that album was in a darkened room during a thunderstorm and it just floored me with it's incredible solos, haunting melodies, and King's plethora of vocals. Everything paled in comparison for me (though "Them" comes very close).
I like MF too despite not being a fan of all the "hail Satan" stuff. However, I'm an odd duck in that I prefer Time over the first two for the lyrics as well as the music.

In the Shadows is my favorite Mercyful Fate album from the 1990s, although it still sounded a bit like King Diamond's solo band. There are some pop influences, but the darker atmospheres and wonderful guitar and vocal melodies make up for them.
In The Shadows is good too. Nothing with King is un-enjoyable if you ask me.

I never heard Fatal Portrait, but I really like Abigail thru Conspiracy. However, for my favorite I picked The Puppet Master. Great songs and a great horror story that really piqued my interest in KD.

I tend to lean slightly more towards The Eye, simply because it was my introduction to the band. Not to mention Into The Convent being one of my favorite songs of all time.
That being said, you can't go wrong with any of those albums. At this point, both King Diamond and Mercyful Fate could do no wrong in my book.

I also prefer Mercyful Fate over his solo band, but that being said, this was very difficult one for me. I like all of his solo albums, some better then others, but I have enjoyed them all, but I voted for Abigail, because I spun that one the most as a young lad.
