I've really gotten into this band lately, especially their 1983 release Against All Odds. All the tracks are great, but I particularly like "Just Another Man" and "Hard Road." I'm starting to listen to their 1970s releases on Youtube. Any other fans here?

I am a big fan of Quartz and I own all their albums. 1980's Stand Up and Fight is superb and you should check it out. Frankly, I think all their output is worth owning. Very high quality all around.
If you want to know where Tony Iommi got "inspiration" for the song Heaven & Hell from, check out Mainline Riders by Quartz:

The riff to Heaven & Hell is a fairly stock root/5th power chord progression, any number of bands could have accidentally stumbled onto something similar (Judas Priest's entire catalog is built off variations of those progressions). Plus Iommi said that riff was written during the recording sessions of Never Say Die but wasn't used at the time, so it had been around since at least 1978.

Actually, Iommi was the producer of that Quartz album in 1977 and Geoff Nichols was in Quartz and helped out with Heaven and Hell. That's most definitely where that riff came from.

Okay then, however it is STILL a very basic riff that countless bands from that era were playing variations of.

I've listened to Stand Up And Fight quite a few times on Spotify because it is the only Quartz album it has. I liked it but not a whole lot except the title track and "Wildfire," although I like this version better:
I wanted to hear more and was disappointed Spotify only had the one album. I've started listening more to Youtube because it has almost any album one can think of. I'm definitely going to listen to as many Quartz albums as I can find and see if I can get into Stand Up and Fight more.

Quartz were one of those bands that were on my radar very early on in my metal listening life. I liked them well enough but AC/DC, Motorhead, Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Ozzy, Scorpions and Rainbow were all new to me at the time so they didn't get that much of a look in.
They are a decent band though.

I just discovered Quartz on Apple Music over the weekend and I'm REALLY digging this band. I've listened to the first 3 studio albums so far, like all of them, though the debut is probably my favorite so far. Interesting band with a more varied sound than I expected.

Former QUARTZ vocalist Mike "Taffy" Taylor died on September 27.
The band issued the following statement: "It is with heavy hearts, much sadness, sorrow and regret that we announce the passing of our very dear dear friend and original founder band member Mike 'Taffy' Taylor. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his family and to all who were lucky enough to have met and known him. LEGEND."
Considered one of the leading NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) bands, QUARTZ guitarist Mike Hopkins had previously played with John Bonham's WAY OF LIFE while second guitarist Geoff Nicholls would join BLACK SABBATH in 1979. Drummer Malcolm Cope was involved with pre-production for BLACK SABBATH's "Born Again".

Did anyone know that these guys have released a new studio album a few months ago??
The album titled fear no evil features some awesome metal material. I will be ordering this one early next year along with a new list of cds.
Anyone picked it up yet?

I was aware of it, but the release here in the States has been delayed until next month. I'll pick it up then.
