Oh yes indeed. I loved the first "Machete" so I'm all over this one too.
...it got a horrendous review (one and a half stars) in today's paper, though, which doesn't surprise me. I gotta give the critic credit, some of his comments made me laugh:
"Michelle Rodriguez does what she usually does, which is to wear a push-up bra and look annoyed."
"Sofia Vergara just screams at the top of her lungs like Charo in a bad mood"
"A few minutes of Danny Trejo can be fun. A hundred minutes of Danny Trejo is like watching a gravel road."

The first two statements make the flick sound even better. Disagree with the last one through.....

The one about Michelle Rodriguez is totally true. In everything I've ever seen her in - "Lost," "Fast & Furious," "Machete" - she always has this pout on her face like she smells something bad.

A shame that Machete Kills! is doing so poorly at the box office, it came in a very distant 4th this weekend.
Unfortunately that doesn't bode well for the proposed next chapter "Machete Kills Again".
I'm kind of okay with that. I'm not sure that the character would stretch to two sequels! Although getting battered by a movie called Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is kind of embarrassing!

Being that Machete Kills has been created as an homage to exploitation cinema and carries a cult status, a poor BO performance is actually fitting, as well as the critical response. I wasn't a huge fan of the first Machete--it was fun but, like Planet Terror had more than several elements that corrupted the "70's exploitation emulation" Rodriguez was working for--but this one looks like it may be even more fun. Here's what Richard Scheib says:
"This is the most outright fun I’ve had in a theatre all year ... Robert Rodriguez escalates his earlier Mexican-themed action film into an insanely creative comic-book overflowing with science-fiction devices (and homages) ... The casting alone is side-splitting and Rodriguez’s nonsensical absurdism wins the day."
Sound like a winner to me.

I definitely plan on watching it, I want them to make the 3rd film so I was just bummed about the poor performance.
