Got my turntable today, f*cking cool. Next up is an amp. See, I'm using one of those cheap solid-state 5.1 home theater setups, and I hate it. What do you guys use?

What kind of budget do you have to invest?

I have a Yamaha receiver circa 1999, at the time I purchased it phono preamps in amps were getting hard to find. It has the Dolby Pro-Logic circuitry but has never been used, it has always been hooked up just as stereo.

If I had the money I'd buy a tube amp, maybe one of these days...

My budget is very modest, maybe 300 at the most. Vintage tube is where my heart is, of course, but until then...

Marantz is actually what I'm eyeballing. They've always been solid.

My current receiver is a Teac with no phono pre in, circa 1999 I think. I also have a Sony which is a few years newer with the phono pre in, no 5.1 just a straight up receiver. The AT turntable I bought has a nice preamp out, but my Teac is producing a very muddy tone. I should mention my speakers are two twelve cabs with tweeters from '78.

Bizarrely my 30 year old stereo has it's own YouTube vid! (although mine also has a turntable and I've replaced the CD player for a better one)

In the bedroom I've got this

but with the tape deck as well

I have absolutely no idea about all of the higgledy piggledy (it's a technical term Laughing very hard) but they do me

This is also fine for the dining room

One day when I'm less poor I'll upgrade, but I genuinely love the sound of the AIWA (which on reflection is not 30n years old, more like 20 something, it was my dad's before I got my hands on it. He bought it in the late 80's I think)

This is another one I'm considering. Can't go wrong with Harman Kardon.

That old Aiwa is badass, though. Hang onto that.

I have an old JVC component system from the mid 1970's (a gift from a cousin who went to Japan on his way home from Vietnam) The receiver is a tube and the components are a tape deck and 24 band stereo EQ. I upgraded the turntable in the 80's and added a cd player shortly there afterwards. (kept it all JVC) That system is in my shop. In my den I have a Sherwood component system that has a tube preamp for the phono. The cd and receiver are new, but the tape deck was a thrift store find. The ST-903 turntable was found on Ebay. All Sherwood America product. which IMHDO is quality w/out the overprice found on alot of home stereo equipment.
