...a new album is forthcoming!!
Quote :
Mickey Thomas is nearing completion on the first Starship studio album since 1989. It’s called Loveless Fascination and features Foreigner, Dokken and Dio bassist Jeff Pilson. Thomas says: “He and I got together and just clicked. With Jeff’s help I’ve finally been able to put together an album with totally new material. I’m really excited about it.” The record is due for release in September
Jeff must've really pissed away all his 80's Dokken money, huh?

Plunging all of his money into a city built on Rock & Roll wasn't really a wise move!

I bet he did not make as much as you may think in Dokken. Certainly not enough to simply retire. Dokken never made it to US arena headline status and were still opening for other acts at the time of BFTA. He's probably made more w/ Foreigner and as an engineer/producer since Dokken than he ever did with the band.

Good for Jeff, I guess, but Starship? Really? Ugh.

They had some nice tunes. Mostly due to Craig Chaquico's guitar work.
And We Built This City really isn't that bad as people make it out to be. Just a mediocre pop song by a band capable of much more, that's all.

Last I heard Grace was "retired" and apologizing profusely for taking part in "We Built This City," which she claims is the worst song of all time.

Those first 2 are why I cut Starship a break. I played the crap outta those songs back in the day.
Also "Stairway To Cleveland".

Actually, Starship's Love Among the Cannibals album sounds kind of like (a lighter version of) Hysteria/Adrenalize Leppard (of course, that may not be a good thing depending on what you think of those albums). Just check this song out:

I liked them as Jefferson Starship, but they released they 'Knee Deep in the Horseshit' I was done with them, 'We Built this City' is just friggin' horrible.
That being said Mickey Thomas is a talented individual, or he would not gotten the gig in the first place. It should bare in mind that those aging hippies hired Thomas to bring in that more radio friendly AOR sound.

Thanks for clairifying. Sarcasm and jokes work so much better when someone points out the inaccuracies. Good job.

Built This City never bothered me at all. Cheesy sure, but I thought it was a fun song with a killer hook to it. I also loved the interlude with the traffic report. At the time we would travel a lot in the summer and I always loved hearing the different versions of that that were specific to various cities. I've always wanted to track down the one from South Bend that had a bunch of Notre Dame stuff mentioned. I also thought that was a great idea to get radio play in those cities.
Nothings Going To Stop Us is a whole other matter however. And I loved the movie Mannequin. Okay I loved Kim Catterall (thanks to Porky's!)
But besides one song I thought Starship was fine for what they were.

Same here. I wonder how much of the hate it gets is as a result of the band's legacy. Originally they were part of the counterculture movement, but by the 80s they had turned into a corporate rock band. If someone else had recorded We Built This City, would it have been better received?

Count me in with the people who like "We Built This City". Personally, i thought "Sara" was worse as it was just dull. Just for fun, here's weird al riffing on the "Sara" video:

Hated Built this City. All of the ballads though? Shame on me but it's great stuff. Can't deny those melodies just plain work.
