Dio Songs That Have a Rainbow In Them

To answer the original question, if we can count the rainbow stuff, I was always amused by the use of "rainbow" in "kill the king": "fly like the rainbow!!!!!"

I've heard that song hundreds of times and never really questioned that lyric!!

Yeah he did have some strange lyrics but those songs were great to listen to. Isn't there some kind of Dio lyric generator out there on the net ?

I've never liked Dio as a lyricist, but he excels in everything else (and really who in metal writes great poetry anyway, and please don't say Neil Peart). The one time he really nailed it down was Devil You Know. Those were pretty haunting words from a man about to be diagnosed with cancer. Although I don't remember if there were any rainbows in there.

I love Dio's lyrics because they are obtuse, and the listener can impose their own meaning on them. 

Also, Catch The Rainbow is sublime.

Jon's a mediocre lyricist and I'm not a fan. But I gotta say, with no shame, that Bed of Roses is the greatest ballad ever written. Still makes me emotional.

But while a lot of Dio's lyrics don't make much sense they work, and having a voice like that goes a long way to selling them.  I'd said he's a bit like Jon Anderson in that regard, where words are chosen more for how they sound/flow together rather than whether they actually mean anything.  Dio's not quite as bad as Anderson as sometimes you do know what Dio's going on about about.

You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean?"

Is no, we don't.

"Stargazer" has this line towards the end:

"I see a rainbow rising!"
