| Any chance that anyone on this board collects or owns movies in these formats? _________________ | |

| I wouldn't say I'm a collector, but I have some old 8mm reels in my possession that were handed down to me from family members.
Since I work in the audio/visual field, I've somehow become the "go-to" guy in the family to have these things transferred to dvd even though I don't know what I'm doing. I'm also the one that has to explain all the different remote controls for my father. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| I used to shoot a lot of stuff on an old bolex 16mm camera. Then edit it on a moviola. Used to love working with that format. Unfortunately I was always quite lazy with the light meter. I still have some old reels from an aborted music video I was shooting. Someday I should get those processed.
The only stuff I have that isn't my own is that Andy Warhol film where they cut the eyeball.

Nah, it's all family stuff. My dad as a little kid playing with his train set, my brother-in-law in terrible plaid pants, stuff like that. The one we found very interesting/funny was footage of my in-laws bringing my then new-born wife home from the hospital. My mother-in-law holding the baby in her arms, front seat, no seatbelt or car seat. I'm pretty sure my father-in-law had a smoke dangling from his mouth as well. Oh, how times have changed. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | ^^^ I'm sure my Mom probably still has a stash of our old home movie reels from "Back in the day" too. When my brother and I were kids, every so often my parents would declare that it was "movie night," which was quite a production... my Dad would have to drag this big-ass movie screen out of the closet and set it up in the living room, then try to remember how to thread the film into the projector, and we'd watch a bunch of movies of my Dad as a kid at Boy Scout camp, my Mom as a kid on a family vacation, trips my parents took together before my brother and I came along, etc.
I know what kind of films Kmorg's talking about though. Back in the 70s I used to see ads in comic books where you could order 8mm films of old B&W monster movies, kung-fu flicks, and 50s TV shows... I never ordered any but one of my friends had a couple old monster reels laying around, we watched'em a couple of times. It was kinda weird watching Godzilla destroy Tokyo without any sound. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Like "stag films" of the 50's and 60's _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

I remember I talked by Dad into buying the 8mm version of "The Giant Behemoth". Imagine my disappointment when the entire film only ran for several minutes. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Yeah I remember those ads too. I always wanted to get some of them but of course that never happened. I probably would have been disappointed much in the same way as Toho.

Yeah, I would imagine that those magazine ads never mentioned that the films were basically "highlight reels." That's exactly what they were. But now I find out (after researching just for this tread!) that most DVD copies of "The Giant Behemoth" omit the scene where said behemoth sinks a ferry because it shows dead bodies floating around. That's the ONLY scene I remember from the 8mm film! Apparently I was already warped even at the age of 10 or so. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Yeah, the highlight versions are the most common ones, hut you can get complete movies also. You just have to change reels every now and then. Heck, there's even a company that makes brand new ones, even today, so even some modern titles can be found on 8mm reels. Oh, and most if them are with sound. _________________ | |
