Gotta admit, I don't dislike the song at all. In fact, I dig it quite a bit; just not sure I get it.
She went from Joplin to Winehouse here. It's a shocking shift in style, and I fear the rest of the upcoming album is going to be peppered with mainstream pop affairs like this one.
Anyone else find this odd?

Not only have I heard this album, I have it.
And I like it.

I got it several week ago.
I'll admit it's different but it still features Beth's voice so it's golden IMO>

Somewhere on here I commented about how much "airbrushing" and/or photoshopping went on with the liner notes on this album.
Not that Beth was ever "ugly" but she always looked "rode hard, put up wet" if you know what I mean. Not on the photos in this disc; she looks great.
For example:

Here's the opening track:
Stylistically, this album is all over the place. Beth is definitely branching out.

We discussed it in an old thread for the previous album, because she looked HOT! Haha. She's not hot at all. She's bar-room scuzzy sexy, you know, but not what I'd call hot.
But on the last album and apparently this new one, she totally looks hot. It's kind of ridiculous.

I'm not at all familiar with this gal, but from what you guys are saying, the style-shift and glamorous make-over all sounds like record label insisting on more marketability. Did they bring in extra songwriters to punch it up too?
That 'Bang Bang' song is pretty catchy though. Since I don't have anything to compare it against, I'd say it's working. 'Baddest Blues' is nice too. I could listen to this. Just don't tell me Desmond Child and Diane Warren are involved. I might hurl
EDIT: Wow, that new album is pricey! For $31, it should come with a "happy ending" from her upon it's delivery. Is it getting a US release date anytime soon?

When I point people toward Beth Hart, I usually show them this video first.
It's not entirely indicative of her style, but the woman singing this song is, in my opinion, the "real" Beth Hart.

Yep! Same here! That entire DVD is simply awesome!

Hmmmm, well, I know it probably won't bode well with you and Toho, but I'm kinda liking that new direction she's going in over her older sound. They knocked off some of the rough edges. Sorry guys.

I like the new stuff too but it is quite different from the older material.

Honestly, the newer stuff isn't exactly blowing my wig back either, but it's not bad at all. I could see how some older fans could get a little put-off by the shift though.

Adele is huge and they're going after that sound. It's not bad, I can listen to it.

A little of that, but I think Eyesore's onto something too with the Winehouse comparrision. The record company is looking for someone to fill that skanky-but-soulful-white-girl void Amy left behind. Despite her natural singing talent, there was only so much turd-polishing they could do with her image. Beth Hart cleans up nicer.

So I've given this new album multiple spins now...and it's damn good. (It got a US release; currently $7.99 at Best Buy.) I am very glad that the title track, which admittedly I do like, is not indicative of the album's overall sound. In fact, it's not all that different from her past album. Maybe less folky and more soulful bluesy this go-round, but still easily distinguishable as Beth Hart, you know.
Can't say I care all that much for the swingin' "Swing My Thing Back Around." It's a good song for what it is, but strikes me as very out of place.
New collabo with Joe Bonamassa. More covers like the last one, but this one seems more of a mixed bag in terms of styles. Sounds pretty good for the most part.

Somehow I'm just hearing about this: new album, Better Than Home, comes out Tuesday.
Sounds like it's a "back-to-roots" kind of album for her. Samples sound great!

New Beth Hart is coming out soon. Well, February for us in the US, but it's already out in Europe.
Sounds great!
