Damn, i mentioned him in that scorpions thread as the best "age doesn't matter' example and then he dies... (though it seems he finished his last movie "The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez"
Great actor, lots of great movies and Airwolf. Poseidon Adventure, Wild Bunch, Marty. He was also in Super Fuzz (it's called Supercop here in Germany) a fun movie with Terence Hill, the german overdub is hilarious

I've got all the DVD box sets and will get any others that are released. I do prefer the Mike era but I've grown to appreciate the origionator, Joel.

I never did warm to the Mike-era; I've always preferred Joel. I think it's because his dry sense of humor more closely resembles my own.

I'll always remember him as the general in The Dirty Dozen, Cabbie in Escape From New York, & most recently as the keeper of the "super secret" government files in Red. Sadly, a person at work, who can probably name the last ten winners of The Bachelor asked if I'd "heard about the guy from Gilligan's Island dying."

Never met the man personally, but I know a few guys that work behind the scenes at QVC and Mr. Borgnine (or Ernie as he told folks to call him) would show up at the studios with his wife Tova when she came in to hock her wares. They said he was always cool and personable and told great stories.
He will be missed.
