Anyone familiar with this bluegrass/country band? They've made a name for themselves by doing numerous covers of hard rock songs (everyone from AC/DC, Queen, Aerosmith, etc.). I'd heard of 'em over the years but thought the whole idea sounded goofy as hell.
Well, I was in the dollar store with my kids this afternoon and noticed that they have a crapload of the "KISS MY GRASS: A HILLBILLY TRIBUTE TO KISS" CD by this band. I didn't pick one up cuz I only had enough $$ to buy the stuff I came for, but curiosity got the better of me when I got home and I ended up checking out a few tracks on YouTube ...I almost died laughing. Holy crap, this stuff is hilarious!! I am gonna have to go back there tomorrow and pick up a CD strictly for the "What the f*ck?" factor.

All of their albums are fantastic, Have you checked out their cover of "Cat Scratch Fever" or "Walk this way"? My favorite album is the hillbilly tribute to mountain love.

The dollar store had a couple of copies of that one too -- when I go back to pickup the KISS tribute I'm gonna have to grab that also. There's a Spinal Tap cover on it for cryin' out loud, how can I resist?

My brother got the Aerosmith album for me, moreso as a joke a few years ago. It was kinda fun the first couple of spins, but the novelty wore a little thin after that. I haven't played the disc in years, so maybe it's about time I gave it a fresh spin.
If memory serves, they put out a Van Halen one a couple of years ago and got David Lee Roth to do some vocals.

EDIT: My Pickin' On Aerosmith album is not by Hayseed Dixie. It's the same concept, Aerosmith covered in bluegrass style, but by various artists.
There appears to be a whole series of "Pickin on..." albums.

I'm 0-for-2 on this one. The DLR collaboration wasn't Hayseed Dixie either. http://www.amazon.com/Strummin-With-The-Devil-Bluegrass/dp/B000CEV4RM
I should just stop typing now. Pay no attention to these posts. Carry on.

It's OK, MG. Who knew that there was such a huge "scene" of bluegrass musicians doing hard rock covers? I would've thought that Hayseed Dixie had the market cornered on it, too.
Check out their cover of Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" ...bwahahahahaha!

Guess I picked the wrong week to stop drinking moonshine sniffing glue.

Funny. I can't get into too much bluegrass but there's no denying the talent.

Bluegrass really has to be seen live to fully appreciate.

I have the ACDC disc and Hells Bells had me rolling on the floor. Hillarious. Incidently, I also saw a Classical Piano tribute to Iron Maiden on i-tunes and Hallowed Be Thy Name was actually kind of cool.

I have one with mostly AC/DC covers.
They are actually touring Norway a lot, and have 1 album where they sing Norwegian drinking tunes!!!

Went back to the dollar store to pick up the KISS MY GRASS album today.
I could've sworn they'd also had copies of their TRIBUTE TO HILLBILLY LOVE but I couldn't find any today...so I guess I'm gonna have to do without their sensitive love ballad, "Savin' Your Poop In A Jar."

I pulled this out of mothballs this week to give it a fresh spin. And just like I remembered, it's a fun listen once or twice through, but it's a little tiresome after that. Unlike Hayseed Dixie though, this Pickin' On Aerosmith is all instrumental. Lotsa lap-steel, banjo, fiddles etc., but nary a vocal in sight. So I can sing along to my co-workers delight. Ye-haw!!

Looks like Hayseed Dixie released a new album last year called "Hair Down To My Grass" - featuring bluegrass versions of "Summer of '69," "Don't Stop Believin'," "We're Not Gonna Take It" and Motorhead's "We Are the Road Crew!"

Seen these guys play a show in Charlotte, NC a few years back. Great show. Guys are very talented musicians. They don't play many dates here in the states, tour a lot in European area.
