| I really love RYM, but the general air sure is saturated with a lot of what we would specify as 'hipster' thought....everything is included, praised, and analyzed except for most heavy metal, with the exception of stuff that is generally 'accepted' in America...doom metal at it's best, but really generally "dark arggghh!" stuff. The list, of course, is partially bloated with 'sacred cows' of popular music..protected eternally by the invincible shield of 'CLASSIC rock', despite the fact that many of those success stories were greatly a result of luck and lack of competition at the time. Not that many of them are still not great albums, it's just funny how the record companies rely on their mystique to keep the sales up and people swallow it whole.
With that out of the way, here is what I own out of it:
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Miles Davis - Kind of Blue King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King John Coltrane - A Love Supreme Black Sabbath - Paranoid Charles Mingus - The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady The Clash - London Calling Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland King Crimson - Red Pink Floyd - Animals Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea Miles Davis - In A Silent Way Black Sabbath - Master of Reality Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath Yes - Close To The Edge Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um Miles Davis - Bitches Brew Megadeth - Rust in Peace Pink Floyd - The Piper At The Gates of Dawn
so 20.
Methinks it would be good and healthy for more here to get more into the jazz and fusion referenced here, yes! 'In A Silent Way' will change your life.

Interesting the amount of stuff being eschewed as I look through their list...I wonder how many RYM posters who do so really *get* something like 'Larks Tongues'...

| I think it's a fairly interesting range of albums that show up on this list, I was impressed by quite a few things...especially the number of excellent jazz albums on the list really caught my attention. Quite a few lesser known prog rock bands like Can, Van Der Graf Generator and the aforementioned King Crimson.
It would be interesting to see the age demographic of the people who voted, I'd be willing to bet it's fairly heavy in the 35-55 range.

| Yeah, it is a wide range as it is, I do love all the jazz, but it's fairly obvious that melodic approach or vocals in metal is poo-pooed unless it's an 'untouchable' like Maiden, Sabbath... otherwise it's considered cheesy or poor quality lyrically or the like, yet we have Wu-Tang alumni who have lyrical approaches which are silly at best, two Modest Mouse albums.........
301-400
Herbie Hancock - Headhunters Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood Michael Jackson - Thriller Death - Individual Thought Patterns Isis - Panopticon Dio - Holy Diver Yes - The Yes Album Miles Davis - 'Round About Midnight Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame Camel - Mirage Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime ... at #379.... we're probably lucky it was included at all, lucky that they got on MTV with it at the time, ensuring to some that the glowing reviews are right, or it probably wouldn't be here. Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk....this shows up before 'Nightside Eclipse'?....... okay.. Herbie Hancock - Empyreal Isles
