OBI Strips

What are they exactly? I see them listed on Japanese imports all the time and I have one that came with a Nevermore cd I purchased awhile back. To me, it just looks like a strip of paper with Japanese writing on it. Am I missing something? Are they important to collectors?

The OBI is basically the Japanese UPC (as you notice there are no upc's
on the tray liner). It is proof of purchase. For collectors
it is essential, as it is not a complete package without it.

I never knew that. Thanks, Saxon. I would see these listings on ebay and I would read "complete with OBI" and stupid me thought it meant Original Booklet Included :lmao:Like OOP means Out Of Print, I hope you can see my line of thinking.

Thank you, Saxon. Good to know. I figured they must be of some importance since they are usually noted "includes OBI".

I guess I'm not too serious a collector because it doesn't matter to me of it has the OBI or not. As long as the cd plays well is all that matters to me (although if it does have the OBI, it is a nice plus)

That's pretty much how I look at it. Of the Japanese pressings I have, about half of them have the OBI and the other half don't.

Here is a pic of one. I just got this in the mail today:

They wrap around the spin of the CD. I'm a collector, but don't completely care about these things. If I get them, cool, I keep them, but I don't find them essential. The essentials are CD, booklet, back insert or complete digipack. That's all.
